Just thinking about this logically.
Now the WWE is going PG, theyre aiming at kids on weekly shows. Which would probably lead to teenagers tuning out.
In my opinion, WWE's PPV buys come from older teenagers, older fans like myself in the early 20s, the older hardcore fans in there 30s+40s.
I really don't see the average 9 year old having enough stroke to get there mom to put down $30 dollars each month for a PPV.
Am I right? Will I be right?

They're more likely to convince Mommy and Daddy to buy it if its PG than if its TV-14

I was a 9 year old once and my brother and I did a damn good job of convincing our Mother to buy 2 pay per views a month in the 1990's, so yeah.

I dunno... I can totally see the OPs point of view.
Though kids these days often get exactly what they want, belts are being tightened and £15 a month...... well, some parents might not tolerate being hassled by their kids over it.
Like I said, I'm not certain either way but I had the same thought as the OP did.

I still think most of that PG thing is in the minds of some fans...
Just because we don't have Austin flipping the bird and Divas flashing their boobs or mooning, it doesn't mean WWE have suddenly turned inot Pope TV...

Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers seem to be making quite a living off getting 9 year olds to make their parents buy them stuff. There's no reason to think wrestling will be any different.

It's been moving that way for years -- I don't see how the buyrates would suddenly change with the next PPV.

I still think most of that PG thing is in the minds of some fans... Duh... Isn't PG a general rating that applies to zillions of non-kids oriented shows? Around here it's treated as if RAW has become some sort of Winnie the Pooh spin-off There are still big men in spandex pretending to fight eachother to the limit. There are still chairshots, table and ladder spots, backstage beatdowns (on women too) There are still half-naked women prancing around and performing oves that have sexual undertones It's still wrestling, they just toned down the raunchy "shock tv" factor, that, by the way, had run its course already

Like someone else mentioned, if 9 year olds could do it in the 1990s twice a month when it was really pushing the limit on what most parents will let their children watch, then I'm sure 9 year olds can do it now.

It's hard to say this until we start seeing more numbers from it.

They fired him, remember? In all seriousness, I do agree with you.As I've said before, I like the changes.

I think it's got a lot less to do with the whole "PG" thing than it has to do with the internet.
Granted, these are tough economic times, so I can see a drop in PPV buy rates as some parents simply can't afford it. I'm willing to bet that a family's financial situation dictates whether or not a parent buys the PPV a lot more often than whether or not it's PG. Most parents have already made up their minds and have their opinions of wrestling. The fact that they've turned down the volume won't change much.
And of course, there's the internet. More often than not, one can find a decent quality stream of any live wrestling PPV with about five minutes of work. And the event is available for download from the major torrent sites within hours, often at HD quality. It's very tempting to simply wait a few hours (or till the next morning) to watch an HD-quality download of the event for free rather than shell out $40 or more to watch it live. And I'm sure a not-insignificant portion of fans do just that.

Aside from the silly renaming of Cena's moves, nothing negative or major has changed since the rating became PG.

Not to mention tame storylines and cheesy face characters with zero edge, toned down heels.
