Nice 'hard-and-fast rule'. People who actually contributed to the writing of the first and second albums don't count. MegaDave>Metallica the dude wrote 6 songs. Jimi Hendrx played a bunch of Bob Dylan songs but Bob wasnt inducted with the Experience really, though, by Hetfelds definition Bob Rock should be going in

Jason Newsted
Everyone else just had a better look, he had better skill.
He was dicked on by the group and they treated him like garbage, so he had every right to leave.

I'll give that Newsted had the better on stage presence and I miss his "DIE DIE DIE MOTHER SNORKER DIE" in Creeping Death, but Trujillo is just the better bass player all around and at the end of the day, that's what matters.

If they inducted every guy that had every recorded with or been with a band, do you realize how many people would be getting inducted with certain bands? It's about who made significant history with the band. so when the Red Hot Chili Peppers get inducted, which will be soon, don't be surprised when Dave Navarro isn't included.

Trujillo may be as good as it gets, but he just doesn't "fit" in IMO.
He doesn't look Metallica, he doesn't act Metallica... in one word, he doesn't belong there.
P.S. Burton >>>>>>> Anybode else. At least when it comes to Metallica

Dave's a big time crybaby, but it would've been nice to see him there

I was referring to the 'hard-and-fast rule'. Fair play to them if they did invite Mustaine, but over the years they have ridiculed his contribution and the man himself, despite the fact they play his solos every gig. Saxon>Metallica But to be fair Dave was as much a whiny asshole as they were cocky bastards. Megadeth=Metallica/assholeness No argument there, Mustaine is his own worst enemy. In all seriousness, I was very disappointed in the way that Metallica portrayed both Mustaine & Newsted in the 'Some Kind of Monster' documentary. Mustaine is pouring his heart out in front of the cameras and he was ruthlessly mocked in the band's commentary of the scene - they really took advantage of him. In particular Hetfield who made it clear that Mustaine means nothing to him & the band when he was an integral part of the style & sound that made Metallica famous. Newsted was edited to seem very bitter when in reality he had been praising Metallica to the high heavens in every single other interview, including one that featured on Metallica.com at the time. That whole movie was an abomination that made me lose all respect for them. They done hatchet jobs on both of those guys, perhaps mindful of their own behaviour during the filming. The scene that really sticks out for me was just after Hetfield had gone AWOL and Ulrich was recalling the jealousy he had felt when Hetfield & Mustaine were very close, more or less admitting that his insecurities fueled his departure from the band. That's my worthless take on it WrestleCrap>Blabbermouth

I've never been able to finish that movie because frankly I have a hard time watching people act like douches. On one hand Metallica should have always given Mustaine the credit he deserves. On the other...Dave should have gotten over it somewhat over the years.

I actually rushed to the shops and bought it on day of release Spending money on things that tarnish cherished childhood memories is not cool. I agree on both counts. Mustaine does strike me as someone who has some mental issues that go even deeper than just the mammoth drug abuse in his early years. I wish, like most people, that he could forget Metallica and be proud of his own awesome band (at least they used to be). Easy for me to say that though.

....I like Some Kind Of Monster Well, it's interesting..but as a Metallica fan it kind of pisses on what ever personal opinion you had retained by this point. It's probably collectively the fan's own fault partially too for not realizing that there are indeed flawed human beings behind those songs but it's still a bit like finding out that not only can Superman not fly but he is scared of heights as well.

So your saying that because I like the movie, I don't deserve to even talk about Metallica or listen to them?

Trujillo may be as good as it gets, but he just doesn't "fit" in IMO. He doesn't look Metallica, he doesn't act Metallica... in one word, he doesn't belong there. P.S. Burton >>>>>>> Anybode else. At least when it comes to Metallica I agree. I've seen Metallica 6 times between 1995 - 2004. The one gig I saw with Trujillo I walked out half way through because the band sounded so damn sloppy and his playing just did not mesh at all. Funnily enough, when I walked out I bumped into 3 people who I knew also walking out, but we didn't realise we were all at the show. All of us agreed the gig was musically piss poor... That gig was when I realised that I had "out grown" Metallica. I loved Metallica from the age of 5 (the Black album was the second album I ever bought back when it came out) till I was in my late teens. I think they make good "adolescent boy" music... As for their personalities. Lars & James are friends of friends of mine and while I never met either of them personally, my friends always put Lars over as a great guy. I did meet Jason back in 1998 and he was really nice to me and back then I was just some dumb fanboy kid... Signed autographs and was really happy to talk to die hard fans (how many 13 year old kids in 1998 would have asked him to sign a copy of "Doomsday for the Deceiver" and talk about his side project with Devin Townsend?) Dave Mustaine on the other hand, I have met on several occaisions is a complete and utter asshole. I have some horror stories on that guy... a complete POS. These days he is very much a politician with his fans. A total two face... Still I do prefer Megadeth's music over Metallica's...

I also think Newsted was justified in leaving the band.
I hope that the band realizes just what they lost when he left. I doubt they do but this R&R HoF thing will be nothing but a one-shot.

Was ecstatic when I heard the news, I always preferred Newsted over Rob.
Of course Cliff Burton owns them both, albeit his death gave him a Heath Ledger aura.

I feel Newsted was totally justified in leaving the band. He wanted to make a solo album while everybody else in the band went off and started families but James and Lars wouldn't let him because they wanted to keep everybody in the band Metallica centric. Not to mention the years of being the bands punching bag to deal with the loss of Cliff. I'm happy he's off doing what he loves these days, but it's still going to be really nice to see the old band back together.

Voivod > Megadeth > Metallica
