In the earliest draft from Aykroyd, it would've have been a trio of himself, John Belushi and Eddie Murphy. If cast as Winston, he would've been hired much earlier, early enough to have been part of the Slimer hunt and would've been the one slimed not Venkman. Murphy was filming Beverly Hills Cop at the time. Sylvester Stallone was cast to be cast in the lead with Michael as his brother and Jenny as the love interest. Two weeks before filming he left and the script was patched together from previous drafts and ad-libs by Murphy and the rest of the cast when needed. Stallone had reworked the script to the point where the studio refused to film that. He left and took his ideas and made Cobra. I heard that Belushi was considered to be Peter Venkman before his death. I also heard that Eddie Murphy was going to play a character called "Ramsey." Where does Harold Ramis fit it? Did Aykroyd write the initial script and then brought in Ramis later? On a side note, Nicole Kidman turned down the role of "Ulla" in "The Producers." That ultimately went to Uma Thurman. I heard it was b/c she didn't want to do another musical after "Moulin Rouge" and that she was set to do a movie in Austrailia called "Eucalyptus." That worked out well because Uma knocked it out of the park. I also read Amy Poehler was cast as Veronica Corningstone in "Anchorman" while John C. Reilly was supposed to play Champ Kind. Reilly decided to do "The Aviator" instead while I think Poehler was simply cast aside in favor of Christian Applegate. From what I've read, the original Ghostbusters idea, from Dan Aykroyd, was that they were dimensional travelers and fought huge ghost, the Stay Puff Marshmellow Man being just one of the monsters, with magic wands. When Ivan Reitman came on board, he liked the idea but didn't think Aykroyds idea was impossible to film due to budget. Harold Ramis was brought in and the two worked out a script that grounded it in New York. It was worked around Belushi, Aykroyd and Murphy. I think Ramsey was the original name but it was changed to Winston. Belushi had died while they were still writing in 1982 so they again revised it. Ramis actually wasn't the first choice for Egon. Chase, he says that the script he read was much darker than what we saw, Michael Keaton and a few others turned it down. John Candy was supposed to play a different version of Louis Tully but couldn't commit so Rick Moranis played him as a geek. Sean Young was cast as Vicky Vale but had to leave because of injury. She later tried to get the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman and had constructed a Catwoman suit. She showed up at WB studios in costume to confront Burton and Keaton. www.dailymotion.com/video/x6cd6j_sean-young-catwoman_shortfilmsMel Gibson, Kevin Costner, Charlie Sheen, Pierce Brosnan, Tom Selleck and Bill Murray were considered for the role of Batman. Adam West felt he would've been a better choice.

Mickey Rooney turned down the role of Archie Bunker, I think because he didn't want to play a bigot. Harrison Ford turned down the role of Mike. Hard to really say it's a mistake though, on a show like that if they'd accepted and then didn't have the chemistry and timing Carrol O'Connor and Rob Reiner had it might've been canned in the first season.

James Brolin was cast to be James Bond ("Octopussy," I think) but was dropped at the last minute for Roger Moore.

Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner, Charlie Sheen, Pierce Brosnan, Tom Selleck and Bill Murray were considered for the role of Batman. Adam West felt he would've been a better choice. Heh, can you imagine Bill Murray as Batman? "This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a bat. What a hype. It's not like they used to mean something in this town. They used to pull the bat out, and they used to eat it. You're hypocrites, all of you! You have a problem with what I'm saying, Robin?"

Roles for "Sweet Bird of Youth" and "Being There" were not taken by Elvis I believe due to Col.Parker. I know Col.Parker helped Elvis become a star but I believe he held him back from stuff due to just always wanting a piece of the action(money).

Sean Connery was offered the role of Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and the role of Morpheus in the Matrix but turned them both down because he "did not understand them"(the scripts). CNN reported that the actor was offered up to 15% of the worldwide box office receipts to play Gandalf, which had he accepted, could have earned him as much as $400 million for the trilogy.

Batman & Robin: Hulk Hogan was reportedly director Joel Schumacher's third choice to play Mr. Freeze. I never thought I would say this, but that would've made Batman & Robin worse.

Why were they casting flat-chested BLONDES for a role that required a busty, vivacious RED HEAD?
And yeah, wigs/dyes and falsies can do wonders....but why not go NATURAL? They could have had Nikki Cox back before she f***ED herself up! Or Jennifer Connelly back before she quit eating solid foods altogether! GOD DAMN IT, SONY!

Would these roles have had the same impact if the others had done it?
Doubt anyone would be talking about Terminator if OJ Simpson had done it.

Frank Sinatra was offered the Paul Kersey role in Death Wish. The movie was also at one point to be directed by Sidney Lumet with Jack Lemmon as Kersey and Henry Fonda as the police chief.
Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda and James Coburn was offered the Clint Eastwood character in Fistful of Dollars. Bronson and Fonda turned him down and Coburn was too expensive for the low budget film.
Billy Zane and Val Kilmer were both up for the Patrick Swayze's part in Dirty Dancing. Zane wasn't picked because he couldn't dance and Kilmer just declined.
Keanu Reeves was to have the Val Kilmer part in Heat but declined.
Reeves was offered the Charlie Sheen role in Platoon but declined. Tom Cruise wanted Sheen's role in Wall Street but Stone was already committed to Sheen. Cruise was later offered and accepted the main character role in Born of the Fourth of July.

Considering I spent all of Christina Applegate's Anchorman scenes in a constant state of drool, I can't say I'm upset by that turn of events.
