Does anyone else remember the rant Mick Foley went on years back, when he told the fans, "You asked me why don't you just be Cactus Jack, so i came out in the white boots and tie dye, and then the fan asked me 'Why don't you just be Cactus Jack, so i gave you Cactus Jack." Then i was left lying in the ring you chanted for Austin?? I gave you what you wanted and you chanted for Austin. That was the most disrespectful thing in my 13 years in the business that has ever happened to me, and you know what it's not worth it any more."
For me that was one of the more surreal moments in the history of RAW.

That was surreal for that time period. If Foley did that same promo now, it wouldn't get over as much. (I say "as much" because Foley's over huge.) But for then, when the buisiness still wasn't as much as an "open book" as it is today, it was kinda surreal for Foley to say something like that.

Foley was a promo master, that's for sure. And someone who can hold the audience in their hand the way he could is sorely missed.
I remember when he was Commish and cut one on Triple H, telling him that if he didn't buck up in some fashion, Mick would see to it that he spent the rest of his career wrestling in any gymnasium or barn that would have him. I was completely floored. It sounded so real at the time, like someone really getting called on the carpet.
Magnificent.

Foley was/is the best promo cutter I've ever seen. His promos and barbaric matches are what got me into wrestling in the first place.

I miss Mick for so many reasons.....but perhaps what I miss the most in Mick was his great personality, and his ability to cut promos that WEREN'T cures for insomnia.

I recently got the Mick Foley's greatest hits and misses DVD and the extras on the first disk contains ECW Cactus Jack's "Cane Dewey" and Anti-Hardcore Promos.
Those have got to be two of the greatest promos I may have ever seen.

This is what I liked about Foley's promos:
He could be humorous as Dude Love, Mick Foley, and towards the end of the character's run, Mankind.
He could turn around and be intense and downright scary as Manking (older version) and Cactus Jack.
And people give him crap because he wasn't a technical wrestler. But he had psychology down better than most others. He knew how to tell a story and it always looked like both he and his opponent were getting killed in there.
He was also a very intelligent guy outside of the ring.
And he also helped draw TRUCKLOADS of money. I mean he was and still is extremely over to this day.
It seems like Mick could and did do it all... except turn down a pizza or carve himself a bodybuilders physique, but we won't hold that against him.
These, my good friends, are the reasons why Mick is my all time favorite damnit!
Mick Foley put my ass in the seat, whether it was in the arena or on my sofa on Monday nights, several times.

I love Foley and his love hate relationship with the fans. That was just like his anti-hardcore angle in ECW, Mick did so much for the fans. He is the internet fans GOD, where the regular fan would chant Austin.
By the way I'm promoting a wrestling event that Mick Foley is coming to. That is not a plug that is just one of my goals being accomplished.

I think this is why everyone got all up in arms about what Flair said. *memo - this is not a knock on Flair* We all heard "glorified stuntman" and got all crazy because there's so much to love about Mick Foley. Sure, he wasn't exactly a technical encyclopedia. We know that. That's NEVER been a question. But we also know that Mick Foley is a man who has entertained us, drawn us in with his characters, made us laugh, made us cheer, made us gasp in shock, made us laugh again, made us gape like boated fish, made us chant long before HOLY SH** ever got on TV, made us smile, made us cry, made us CARE... and then for good measure made us laugh again. Sure, he's probably never gonna throw a grapevine on anyone and the logistics of him doing a hurricanerana are just mindblowing. But that's not why we love Mick. Mick Foley was the prime example of someone tossing everything they had into their character (whichever one it was at the time) and making wrestling all the better for it. His is one of those occasions where maximum effort yielded maximum output. For this, Mick, I salute you. We should all love our jobs that much.
