I just watched "Taken" and while I found it very enjoyable there is on issue I had. Not so much an issue with the movie itself, but an issue with the movie business in general.
Stop it with the PG-13 garbage, please. Watching the movie it was painfully obvious that some scenes were cut just to get the precious PG-13 rating. If it was meant to be R, just let it be.
Call it the "Die Hard 4" treatment, if you will.

I agree. What kid wanted to see that movie anyway?

Actually I don't think this movie was filmed with many cuts, as the Unrated version isn't really all that bad.

The theatrical release got a lot cut from it from the UK Theatrical release which was ages ago. I have the uncut UK DVD and I wouldn't mind seeing the US DVD version to compare the two.

SPOILERS AHEAD!
From what I've found out. (Haven't seen the Uncut Version YET.), the scene where Liam Neeson tortures the guy with electricity was heavily altered. In the PG-13 version he hooks the electricity to the chair, in the uncut version he sticks nails in the guy's legs and attaches the clamps to the nails.
And there were many quick cuts to avoid showing blood that seemed unnecessary.

I mean I haven't seen the PG-13 version to compare, but I just didn't figure there were many changes because what I saw didn't seem that terrible. Maybe I was wrong.

I couldn't agree more. It doesn't matter what these movies are rated, teenagers and kids are still going to see them. Sure, they're not gonna be able to go without dragging along mom or dad, but they'll still go.

What really bothered me about this movie was what I saw in the trailer. A girl calls her father, frantic, because she saw her friends get kidnapped. And he doesn't even raise his voice. He just tells her the same thing is going to happen to her..... and he's supposed to be the hero? I'm assuming he knows something about the kidnappers already, but the trailer didn't specify that. All I know is that a dude's daughter is kidnapped, and even when talking to the kidnappers, he never sounds like he cares. Really turned me off from wanting to see it.

Oh, he cares, it is just he was trained to know what to do, and one of the things is to remain calm. Internally he was going ape shit insane with rage and sadness, but outwardly he had to keep up his stone facade.

I thought it was pretty evident by the trailer that this guy was a professional when it came to this kind of thing, and knew how to handle this situation.

My Taken Rant: The first commercial I saw was basically the girl being taken and the father was talking to the kidnapper and that was it. If they just basically left it at that it would be awesome. You knew the premise (get the girl back), it didn't give away alot, and it was mysterious enough to get my attention. Too bad the same commercial break they showed a commercial that had more action scenes in it. If it was just that first commercial I would have just seen it because that was just a good trailer/ teaser. But alas they ruined it.

Well hopefully the R-rating won't end up with the same fate as NC-17, as long as they still get Oscars.

It's mentioned in another promo, so it's not really a spoiler, but Liam Neeson in this movie is pretty much a trained spy, with probably some assassin training. The guy knows what's going to happen, and wants her to be calm to get as much information as possible so he can get her back. And in being a trained spy he knows what happens in foreign countries. And with being a trained spy, he's not going to show emotion and like has been said he wants his daughter to remain calm, so that she can think clearly enough to get him information. My Taken rant is that it ended. It's an awesome action movie.

If I'm going to see two hours of Liam Neeson being badass, it had damn well better be R.

Unrated, directors cut, ultimate edition etc..... I hate when they put one out and then later on release another version with even more special features than before.

I thought it was a really good movie. Being PG-13 really didn't hurt it at all.
