1. Fire David Stern. This one action would probably take care most of the problems the league has.
2. Better referees. The officiating has been [BillWalton] HORR-I-BULL! [/BillWalton] the last few years. And it got worse AFTER the Donaghy scandal. This does nothing to change the idea that the game is rigged.
3. Technical fouls for flopping. There's no excuse for this. If you flop you're a bitch. End of story
4. Put the Sonics back in Seattle. Screw you Oklahoma, nobody cares.
5. The best 16 teams PERIOD go to the playoffs. The East has gotten better but all things considered they're still fairly weak.
6. The Bucks, Nuggets, Hawks, and Warriors all go back to their 80's style uniforms.

4. Put the Sonics back in Seattle. Screw you Oklahoma, nobody cares. I have to disagree with you here. I"ve become a legit full-fledge OKC fan. They're probably my second favorite team behind the Spurs.

Aside from what's been said (the goddamn officials...), move a franchise to Kansas City and back to Seattle.

I can't see making it the best 16 teams in the NBA period, as that would completely defeat the purpose of Confrences and Divisions.

They're probably my second favorite team behind the Spurs. Yeah, leave the Thunder be. Just make a new Sonics team. Seattle owns the history, team name, and team colors. They just need to create an expansion team in Seattle and call them the Sonics. Oh, and make one other team, thus giving the league 32 teams.

The NBA is getting to the point, in terms of its officiating, that one can make a "Fans were hoping to see an athletic contest that was double booked with a fake sports event in Denver last Monday, but the WWE left and they got stuck with the hackneyed writing of the NBA" joke.
The officiating in the NBA is ridiculously bad. I recommend Bill Simmons' column on ESPN from earlier this week for a strong critique-cum-polemic about NBA officials. Suffice it to say that two active NBA refs were born in the 1930s. A significant number of teams are in states of financial flux related to the poor or shaky finances of their respective ownerships. Many NBA teams are run, on the basketball side, in an indefensibly poor manner. To wit, look at the contracts of Jerome James, Theo Ratliff, Mike Dunleavy, Kenyon Martin, and Luol Deng just to name a few. The current draft system makes it difficult for teams to climb out of the gutter. Coaching is hopeless ruled by a good ol' boys system. The league is loaded with problems. It is a mess.
Where to start?
1. Relocate struggling franchises to hungry markets. The Sacramento Kings will move to San Jose, CA. The Memphis Grizzlies will move to Kansas City, MO. The New Jersey Nets will make their move to Brooklyn, NY. The New Orleans Hornets will move to Seattle, WA. The Los Angeles Clippers will move to Anaheim, CA.
2. Expand on the NBDL, creating a two-tiered minor league system wherein each NBA team could own the rights to 4 NBDL players, with the rest permanently available to any franchise willing to offer a contract. Implement an "options" system comparable to that of MLB: within three calendar years of a player's NBA debut, his franchise may at any time promote and demote a player. Thereafter, a player would have to pass through waivers before being assigned to an NBDL team.
3. Require all General Managers to have a fully functioning human adult brain with significant knowledge of basketball and money. No more Chris Wallaces or Isiah Thomases. If an Isiah situation would present itself, the League would have the right to step in and prevent further damage.
4. Shorten the regular season to 62 games. This would allow each team to play the other teams two times each, with four additional "rivalry" games to be played against former divisional foes.
5. Expand the playoffs to five rounds. Twenty-four teams would make the playoffs, with the 8 best records receiving byes. The first round would be a best-of-3 format, with teams matched by record (9/24, 10/23, etc.). Upon completion of this round (to be played in 5 days), the top eight teams would be able to choose their opponent based on record (ie, the #1 team could pick anyone who survived round one, #2 would pick from the remaining 7, etc.). Top seeds would continue to choose opponents throughout the playoffs.
6. Every team, 1 through 30, is entered into the NBA draft lottery with equal odds of picks 1 through 30. A #1 overall pick should have a decent chance of going to a decent team to develop, rather than having to carry a crummy franchise.
7. Use the NBDL as a proving ground for new officials. Pay well to encourage top high school, NCAA, and international referees to take the step forward toward the NBA. Establish age and health guidelines for active referees.
8. Adopt the international trapezoid lane. Change the dynamic of gameplay by adjusting angles on free throw rebounding and lane positioning. Force big men to grow their games both offensively and defensively.

I think a small change would add one more draft round and make D-League better.

Minor league basketball has never really been that successful. D League even with the NBA's backing still isnt as successful as minor league baseball or hockey.

They have not put enough backing into it though. Its just there. Some teams have 3 NBA team affiliations, Some are are independent and some NBA teams have no ties to D-League.

I believe college basketball is a big reason why no one cares about minor league basketball.

I like 62 regular season games but that wont happen because the owners dont want to lose any money. I think going to 32 teams wont hurt because Seattle needs a team and its not fair to get it but taking someone elses.

I believe college basketball is a big reason why no one cares about minor league basketball. Having no real organization and not pushing it is also a big factor. I mean how many D-League teams can one person name off the top of thier heads? I can name the Tulsa 66ers team. Thats it.

True but Im saying that even before the D league existed, minor league basketball was never a big draw to begin with.

Move the Nets and the Clippers... no one really cares about them anyway. Which is why the Clipper organization still makes money... I think we should eliminate all teams South of North Dakota. Basketball didn't originate here, so why should they have original teams?

Basketball didn't originate here, so why should they have original teams? Yeah and we can make them play with sticks, a puck instead of a round orange ball, put the net on the ground, add a 6th player who's only job is to stop the puck and move it to ice. I still think they should move the Nets and the Clippers.

He's an incompetent smeghead. 2. Also yes. And get rid of that one old ref that seems to have agendas against some of the players (Not a fan of Tim Duncan, but you can't eject him when he's laughing on the bench). 3. VERY YES! By that standard, the Spurs would have about 9 technical fouls in a game, average. 4. Eh, doesn't make me no nevermind. I'm a Bulls fan. 5. This could go either way. Yeah, there's better teams in the West, but there's the whole Division winners. I say mix up two of the divisions a little bit. Maybe that might help. 6. Pics, or it don't count.
