Anyone could be world champion, the only person that can truly say yes or no is Vince Mcmahon himself. Of course, but some are more likely to become champion than others and I know some will jump on me for this, but I think this is only mentioned because of his untimely death. He could have been, but honestly I doubt it. Makes a great spokesman and crazy over the top commentator like he was with J.R on occasion, but I can't see him being the top guy, it's not like he was that over.

Pillman COULD have been champ, sure.
But then, so could I.
WOULD he have ascended to the top of the mountain? I'd have been very, very surprised if he did.

I wish I could vote yes a hundred times. He definitely would've been able to be a champ in 2009.

I'm gonna go with maybe.
If the loose cannon gimmick had succeeded, he would have been as wildly popular as Stone Cold was. They both had a similar background (Hollywood Blondes) and I think that basically Austin picked up where Pillman left off after Pillman died.
It's still a shame that Brian's life was cut short. I was a big fan of Flyin' Brian and though I hated the Hollywood Blondes, Brian was very good at getting heat.

In regards to his injury, everyone thought HBK's back injury was career ending but he's back having 5 star matches now. Treatments are progressing all the time now and if Pillman was still around I could definitely see him as a World Champion. He would maybe be a bit edgy for the current WWE product though.

It would have been great to see, but as before, his foot and ankle was in no shape to let him work at a ME level.

'Loose Cannon' Pillman in a promo with 'Poopy' Cena would be uh....interesting.

I agree with those that say you would have to alter his death and car wreck to make this work. But if you grant me he doesn't die and he doesn't destroy his ankle...then I think he would have been a world champion in the WWE. Remember that before he signed with the WWE in 96 he was one of the hottest names in the business. He had honed his character to a point that even the boys in the back were unsure if he was working the crowd. It was a cutting edge character that anticipated and foreshadowed the attitude era. I believe if he had been healthy he would have been in a program with HBK when Bret Hart left. I think it is very likely that he would have put on terrific matches with HBK and possibly he would have been the guy to beat Shawn rather than Psycho Sid. And if he had stayed healthy there is no doubt that he and Austin would have lit up the world stage as two of the most visceral promo-men of the time.

No doubt about it. I'm sure b/c of his size, health and his age and the fact that there were so many young future stars in the making (Rock, Triple H, Angle).... Pillman probably would only have one world title reign after an involved fued w/ either HBK or Austin.

If Rey Mysterio was a World Champion, Brian Pillman sure as hell could have.

Yes. The guy had TONS of talent and would have received Edge-like heat. Also, if we're talking about him being smaller, just look at guys like Mysterio and Benoit who were given the gold.

Plus, he went from being a bland babyface to one of the edgiest characters in the business. I've never read an autobiography of him but I'm curious about what spurred such a change.

I'm guessing no.
He's one of my favorites EVER. But I don't put on the rose colored glasses. Owen was another of my all-time favorites... but I don't see him ever being world champion either.
It's not a bad thing though. Like I always say, not everyone's gonna be a main eventer. Some of my all time faves were midcarders.

No. He was too small. No-one would buy it, and his reign would be second only to Mysterio's in pointlessness. He wasn't that much smaller than either Austin or Rock. But he looked it. Austin and Rock both look like huge guys, powerhouses, even though by wrestling terms they weren't that big. Pillman looked skinny as hell. Besides which, Pillman was a light-heavyweight champion, are you telling me Pillman was close to Rock's 275?

Yes, because his character stood out so much - Austin/Pillman would have been the Hogan/Piper of the 90's, especially working in their history. However, he would have had to develop from "Crazy Psycho" to something more palatable and usable in other circumstances besides showing how crazy he was.

Besides fixing the injury and his death, we would also need to know whether he would've left after the Screwjob. We all know Neidhart, Bulldog, Crush, and Rude did, and Pillman was very close to the Harts.
But I think that there was a possibility, but I doubt he would. Someone mentioned it would be the Hogan/Piper of the 90s and if that was so, remember Piper didn't win the title neither.

As an attitude era champ sure. Vince could have made a dollar off of him and his riegn would have lasted from a Raw taping until the next PPV. After that the only people who would remember he was world champ are online posting in this forum. He was not and wouldn't have been a Ric Flair, harley race, Rick Steamboat world champion. He wouldn't have drwan huge gates unless he was in a program with another name. He couldn't "make somebody" as champion. I liked him and the loose cannon gimick but it's just the truth. Without the attitude era he is nothing but fodder for the indies

There is a definite chance as he would have been a natural feud for Austin but, given his injury history, I just doubt it.
