@ Grand Master Dolphin-who would you say in your opinion is/was the better female wrestlers in the WWE/F No order-starting after the Attitude Era- before then it was actually pretty good. Jazz Jacqueline being the toughest b in the world, taking on men Molly- same Ivory- had an actual character and could talk if allowed Really that was it, everything else was either an over hyped sparsely trained bimbo or a totally and utter fail. |

I can understand the women not drawing argument on the whole. The ONE exception was when it was reported that the Lita/Trish main event on RAW in December 2004 (Lita winning the title, took that sick bump) actually pulled a substantial rating for that segment. Again, it may have been a one off, but clearly it was because WWE writers put the time and effort into that chapter of their ongoing feud - something which the fans could be interested in!
It isn't impossible for the women to become draws. They need to push a few women who can really push forward with a decent storyline and potentially get a reaction. I admit that Trish wasn't the greatest woman wrestler when compared to some indy talent, a few of the TNA women and the elite Japanese women...BUT for a woman who came in as solely T&A and to become a solid, reliable worker (she became this middle to late 2002 onwards) she gets that credit from me. She stuck to what she was good at. When she really hit her stride, I don't remember Trish barely botching anything. That's also why not every bit of eye candy who's been trained can emulate her since they're all prone to botching moves left and right. Maryse, Melina, Maria and as evidenced from last night Alicia Fox are just some examples.
I guess the difference between America (WWE especially) and Japan in terms of women's wrestling, is the attitude towards women in sexualised roles. In Japan, there is a clear separation of women in sporting and athletic fields as well as in more sexy stuff. Even some of the prettiest Joshi wrestlers have had publications known as photobooks released over the years. The Japanese crowd never looked to that as the women's selling point when they were in the ring though, again due to this dichotomy.

As far the the "why don't they just hire Shimmer girls?" question goes, it's an open secret, and Madden hinted at in the article posted a few pages back, that many of the divas are hired as "fresh meat" for the wrestlers and higher ups, rather than anything they could contribute to the product. So, they hire models, teach them the bare minimum wrestling skills, all the while having their fun with them.
Basically, Vince would rather sleep with Kelly than Portia Perez or Sarah Stock. Which is why she got a contract and they didn't.

What does the concept of drawing mean to a major company like WWE or TNA these days anyway? Generally speaking, how many people honestly make their ticket-buying decision based on the card? Especially when often there is no announced card, just a list of names.

I honestly think Rain could fit WWE format with her look. Then again I wish she returned to TNA (she was Peyton Banks there).

I think nattie was hired not only for her ability but more so for her last name most of those girls i posted from shimmer run rings around most of the divas on the current WWE roster.. |
