I remember being a kid renting old Colliseum Video pay per view tapes and wondering when Hercules became a face, since I remembered him being heel at WM 3 and 4, and also being heel when he was in Power and Glory.
Too bad they never really went anywhere with his face turn, though.

He needed a win over DiBiase to truly benefit from the face turn. Ultimately, not being able to beat the guy who tried to turn him into a slave made him look like a chump and doomed him to become a babyface JTTS.
I'm sure the DiBiase purists would argue that it would have been dumb for him to put Herc over, since the MDM character was still pretty huge, but if anyone could have done it and saved face, it was DiBiase.
Alternate fantasy booking for WM5: Hercules pins DiBiase when Virgil's interference backfires Beefcake (with nothing better to do) pins King Haku (with nothing better to do)

He doesnt seem like the kind of guy who'd have much success as a face. Even as a heel he wasnt exactly being pushed to the moon.

At least as a heel he had matches vying for the WWF and IC titles, when he turned face he was losing to DiBiase left and right, and getting a few wins here and there against Virgil.

That would make a good thread. Heel/Face turns that nobody noticed/cared about

Wow, Bobby Heenan was a HEAT MAGNET. Anyone threatening to beat him up = Instant Babyface Pops. That right there is a true heel.

I still think Bobby not being in Herc's corner at Summerslam that year should have been used to help the face turn start. It wasn't really mentioned as much as it should have been.

I remember watching this on TV and the next day I thought I dreamt it. It seemed too bizarre, even by wrestling standards, to have really happened.

I recall that he went from black tights as a heel to blue tights as a face. That was really it. His promo before his match at WM III is pretty good though, as Herc manages to get pretty much everything about Greek mythology wrong

So how long did his face run last? What turned him heel again? I remember being very surprised when this all happened

So how long did his face run last? What turned him heel again? I remember being very surprised when this all happened He was face for about 18 months. Then the oddest thing in the world happened and he turned heel again, I'll try to explain.... Hercules and Paul Roma had teamed together twice randomly in 1990, getting the win over 2 jobbers both times. Their finisher one time was Roma hitting a crossbody off the top while Herc held the guy up in a suplex position. Then in June, Hercules lost to Rick Martel and attacked the ref then got sprayed with Arrogance. Roma made the save and checked on Hercules. Then a month later, Roma jobbed to Dino Bravo. after the match Bravo hit Roma with Jimmy Hart's megaphone. The Rockers were due up next and Roma started arguing with them thinking that they attacked him. Hercules came out to back up Roma and the four of them brawled. Herc and Roma then cut a promo saying they were sick of The Rockers being cheered and were becoming a team. The following week they had Slick as a manager. so basically Hercules turned heel because Paul Roma thought that The Rockers jumped him for no reason after a match he had with Dino Bravo. so instead of Hercules telling him the truth, he just turned heel for no reason.

Sounds like it made more sense than that... Hercules probably respected Roma more, having tagged with him a few times, and he probably was sick of the Rockers. He could've told Roma the truth anyways but decided he hated the Rockers and/or liked Roma more.

He could've told Roma the truth anyways but decided he hated the Rockers and/or liked Roma more. By mid 1990, Hercules' cheers were gone, so the reason could've been "I'm jealous of the cheers they're getting and I'm not getting." So he backs up a guy who he's teamed with and trusts and also doesn't get the cheers he thinks he deserves and/or used to get. Not an excellent reason, but it's a reason. And a far better one than many other wrestlers - especially nowadays - get for turning heel.

This is the part of Herc turn that'd the weirdest to me, because a few months later P&G were buddy-buddy with Martel on his Survivor Series team. If someone shot cologne in my eyes, I think I'd have a problem teaming with him ... especially when the opposing captain is ANOTHER guy who got cologne shot in his eyes.

Did he always suck at selling, or was his Sid match an oddity?
I haven't seen a lot of Herc's work, so I don't know if he's like Hawk, or if he sold most of the time.

You could say the same for just about any of the teams of Survivor Series most years. Such as Steamboat teaming with Savage and Roberts, two guys who tried to put him away. I guess it's forgive and forget.
