Cornette probably felt Flair didn't need him. Also at the time Cornette was preoccupied with the upstart of SMW.

Yeah, I remember Cornette saying that as well. This and Paul E. managing Curt Hennig in AWA I would've LOVED to have seen. It's also possible that WCW offered him to come back to manage Flair and in typical Cornette fashion, told them to go f*** themselves because he wasn't gonna deal with Jim Herd's crap again.
