Main eventers haven't always been main eventers, and in most cases, got started with a lame gimmick. Which ones come to mind and which are your favorites?

Damn, I forgot about some of those.
It cracks me up thinking about when I first saw Hunter Hearst Helmsley. I never thought that guy would go anywhere, seriously.

I really liked the Ringmaster...though there wasn't much of a gimmick to it. Seemed like every time he had a match that went longer than 5 minutes, it was good.
Funny enough from the beginning Vince was saying "This man is stone cold..." and they ran with that random phrase later.

Dude Love/Cactus Jack. Kick ass personas, showing that Foley has never had a lame gimmick (it's debateable as to which counts as his first, so I put both).

I was a fan of Blue-Chipper Randy Orton. The reason being that the character worked perfectly. A cheesy 1980s style babyface designed to draw jeers rather than cheers. A Fake Face, if you weeeeeeel.

John Bradshaw Layfeild! Bradshaw's original gimmick was "Justin Hawk Bradshaw", the Wildman Redneck who just screamed "DOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" a lot while holding up the longhorns while Dirty Dutch Mantell (Uncle Zebekiah, the evil Mountain Man) managed him. I think he'd hogtie people after matches, but he'd never talk...

I enjoyed the "Ruthless Aggression" John Cena era when he first debuted. I remember him being called the next Sting after his debut match with Angle. He seemed fresh and energetic at the time. It has been an interesting career since then for him to say the least.

Blue chip john cena- just because his debut slap and 'ruthless agression' line on kurt angle (or was it jericho?) is still the most brutal ive ever seen

Mankind (original before the tie) was my favorite.

Mankind (original before the tie) was my favorite. I second that.

Funny enough from the beginning Vince was saying "This man is stone cold..." and they ran with that random phrase later. I agree the Ringmaster was the best of those listed. Smarks complain about it being boring, but it was exactly what smarks say they always want. It was a gimmick designed to put the emphasis on wrestling instead of over the top crap and wrestlers with day jobs. Austin was the right guy for the gimmick because before Owen broke his neck nobody could work like Austin and the only reason it was not more over was because DiBiase had gone completely stale by that point.

I don't want to go into the "Other" choice because I could never pick one, so i'll just pick Ring Master.
Oh, and I want to add that I hated the original HHH gimmick. It was just a little too annoying for my taste.

Helmsley always sucked. Undertaker had the best ever debuting gimmick though. Not just the WWE but in wrestling history.
