I know it's odd, and neither are very popular here, but since they have similar backstories, I think it would be interesting to see which ones you liked better.
I remember someone had the Nitro girls vs. Diva search before but this is a little bit more fair.
Backstory: In late 99, During one of Vince Russo's many booking reigns, he decided to hire a bunch of models who had nothing to do with wrestling and just give them something to do, cause he was going overload with trying to outdo the wwe in sex and shock department.
Seemingly all at once, he had the nitro girls disband and try to throw a couple of them into roles (Sharmell, Stacy, Kimberley, bunch of other people just standing around in the back).
And then one day someone got the genius idea to reform Nwo yet again, and I guess to counteract the wcw nitro girls, someone decided to give them NWO girls. It didn't last long (as usual), but they all ended up with something to do afterwards.
Let's see there was:
April Hunter
Who ended up liking the sport and chose to train to become a competent wrestler (not in wcw though, she got better once it closed), She's a pretty reputable name these days on the Japanese/Independant circuit. Kind of like the Wcw eqivalent of Trish Stratus.
Tylene Buck:
Who went on to become major Gunnz. After Wcw Folded she went to Xpw for some reason and managed the Sandman. Then she left the business, got all bitter and deluded and gave some ego-filled commentary on the wrestling scene on 101 reasons not to be a pro wrestler.
Pamela Paulshock:
Now I actually liked her for some reason. She just stayed in the back and was designated as the new Nitro interview girl. That would have fine and Dandy had she not replace Mean Gene as Wcw's trying to be hip and appeal to the youth (like the got rid of Bobby Heenan). I think Mean Gene popped up every now and then to say something sexist and vulgar (since he really is a Lawler in real life). They may have had a fued of Lillian/Fink proportions but I don't remember.
MIdajah:
Scott Steiner's designated freak he kept talking about. She disappeared when He showed up on Raw a year later.
She went to World Wrestling Allstars with Steiner when WCW was purchased by Vince McMahon and spent some time in Ultimate Pro Wrestling before leaving the sport.
Kim Kanner:
I barely remember her, other than she was Scott Steiner's other freak initially when he had two. She quit when Russo tried to force her to go to the Power Plant. To be fair, she signed up as just a valet.
Now Diva Search 2004:
Christy:
Kind of liked, kind of hated around here for strange reasons. But she cares, she tries, and she's not too bad in the ring. Her initial matches, although bad, showed significant improvement each time (compared to say, Torrie) and she only had 4 matches aired on tv. I watched that Lingerie pillow fight. Aside from the usual antics, she did bust out some moves, and I liked that weird sunset flip she used to finish off stacy.
Candace Michelle:
Spent year just standing around in the back doing nothing, or part of a stupid skit, or running in terror of the usual suspects (kane, snitsky, angry edge). Invovled in an actual angle on Smackdown with Melina and Torrie. Showed back up on Raw as a pregnant dogy heel, which suits her with that horridly nasal voice she's got going. And it seems like she changed her mind about not wanting to wrestle as she's been doing it on house shows.
Michelle McCool:
Michelle McCool was known on SmackDown! with the gimmick of a personal trainer (an actual former job of hers) to the SmackDown! superstars. Unlike most other "Rookie Divas" who participated in the 2004 Diva Search, Michelle's primary reason for joining WWE is to develop enough skills to become an actual professional wrestler. [1]
McCool competed in the 3-part "2005 Rookie Diva Contest" at the 2005 No Way Out PPV against Lauren Jones, Rochelle Loewen, and Joy Giovanni (Giovanni was announced the winner). During the contest, Dawn Marie served as an MC, along with Torrie Wilson. Each contestant was asked to show what their talents were as part of the competition. Dawn Marie mostly responded harshly towards each of the competitors. McCool body-slammed Dawn Marie as a result of her words. This sparked a short-lived feud between the two.
A few months later, McCool began a feud with Melina for teasing her friend, Heidenreich. In their first match, Melina defeated McCool by gaining leverage from the ropes. Immediately after the match, Melina ordered her clients Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury to perform the Snapshot on the unconcious Michelle.
She's in Deep south wrestling, trying to get better.
Maria Kanellis:
She has quickly earned a reputation as the oblivious RAW backstage reporter, Maria seems to ask the wrong questions, irritating and amusing WWE Superstars and Divas alike. Despite being in the WWE for such a short time, Maria has had numerous memorable moments, including interviewing Eugene and William Regal after they won the World Tag Team Championship from La Resistance. For it was in this situation that led to an overwhelmed Eugene dousing Maria in chocolate milk as part of a post-match celebration.
Amy Weber:
JBL's secretary of the Cabinet.
She left after supposedly getting Harrassed by the wwe locker room (probably just a couple of ribs). Matt Hardy has blamed Edge, but most people think it has to do with Randy Orton.
Joy Giovanni:
Joy gained a job in the WWE after after finishing in the top three during the $250,000 RAW Diva Search. Joy Giovanni debuted on Smackdown! as the show's "Massage Therapist"; much of her on-screen appearances in the company thus far have seen her work with WWE wrestler Big Show, though she has also feuded with former SmackDown! Diva Amy Weber. She also won a 2005 Rookie Diva of the year contest at WWE No Way Out 2005. She was released by WWE on July 6, 2005.
