It's rather simple: Newman likes to stir the shit.

I remember when Newman got angry that Jerry delivered the mail on time, etc.
Too bad Jerry didn't consider a career as a postal worker.

I might have to consult my Seinfeld season 1 DVD to see if a reason is given.....or someone else could Newman didn't debut until season 3, "The Suicide", well, he was in a season 2 episode The Revenge, when he was ironically enough, trying to kill himself. However, Larry David was Newman's voice in that episode, Wayne Knight redid the audio for syndication as Newman was never seen in that episode, only heard.

I love the episode where Jerry is dating the hot chick that Newman dumped.

No, you missed no episode as their was no explanation in show. Though at times they are friendly some times so I don't think they hate each other but rather just find the other annoying often but harmless. That mention of them being friendly at times reminded me of one of my all-time favorite exchanges on the show, when Jerry offered to help Newman deliver the mail to get him to Hawaii: "An alliance?" "An alliance." (Jerry and Newman shake hands and share a slightly maniacal laugh) "Now get the hell out of here." "Right." Yep, I love that moment too. IMO, Jerry and Newman's relationship exemplifies that kind of "nothing is mundane" nature of Seinfeld that I love so much.

Kramer had some reason to hate Newman, Newman nailed Babs.....or was awful close to in "The Switch".

One is clean and thin the other is messy and fat, something had to give.
There's also a well documented feud between comedians and mailmen going back 200 years at least.

All it took to bring Newman to his knees was a package of Drake's Coffee Cake.
Why Jerry didn't stock up on this as a Newman deterrent, I'll never know.

There never was a reason given as far as I know (unless it was explained in a DVD extra maybe).
I'd like to know what happened to George's brother and Elaine's sister. Guess they disappeared like Richie's older brother in Happy Days.
