I have an Idea for you. Go outside, find a nice brick wall, and slam your head against it for thinking such a thing. (Or something less painful) Laws or not, Guns lead to trouble. Guns do not always lead to trouble. It is a very debatable thing but I think it is mostly agreed upon that truly responsible people can own a gun without it leading to trouble.

Yeah um, that's a smidge something that you should not say to someone on the forums, I know you were probably trying to illustrate a point, but the "borderline" you try to walk while doing so often is growing old. Also, I've pretty much decided to focus on buying a different car for the time being over a gun, that can wait til' I'm older. A better car is something I need right now.

You can get a gun just for firing ranges. Ranges are a lot of fun, plus you won't have to rent the guns all the time when you have your own.

That, and usually when you rent the gun at the range, they make you buy your ammo there, and that gets expensive. As far as guns go, shotguns are best for home defense, handguns are best for concealed carry. I know it looks cool to have shot coming out of a handgun, but a couple of hydra-shock rounds will be a whole lot more helpful in a pinch.

A gun is not a weapon. It's a tool. Like a butcher knife, or a harpoon, or...uh, a...an alligator. You just need more education on the subject. Tell you what. You come with me to an N.R.A. meeting, and if you still don't think guns are great...we can argue some more.
Seriously though, the blank-firing gun and the real gun sounds like a smart idea. Though I've always thought that firing up a chainsaw when there's an intruder would be an attention getter.
Then again, nothing can replicate the sound of a shell getting chambered in a pump-action shotgun.

As a person who has grown up around guns all my life, my advice is that if you have never owned a gun, or didn't grow up around guns then you had better take a few courses before you make any purchases. Owning a gun is a lot like having a driving a car in that most of the tragedies that happen with guns could have been easily avoided if someone had been more careful.
Also if this is your first gun you might want to start out a bit smaller at first. Everyone wants to go out and buy a 44 mag, but honestly its much better to start out slow and move up. Buy a 22 first, and then move up as you get more comfortable. And one last thing treat every gun you handle with respect as if it is always loaded, do that, and you will never have a bad experience with a gun.

Yeah for sure, I actually planned to take some safety courses first, I am a firm believer in not going out and doing something until you actually know what on earth you're supposed to be doing. Something smaller and cheaper like a .22 or a little 9mm Glock seems much more appropriate. Still though, I'm just gonna hold off on it a while.

If you're thinking about getting a shot gun, and the zombie apocalypse is on the brain...then get a Saiga Semi-Automatic Shotgun.

I live in a home with many guns. I've never had to shoot anyone and I never hope to. But, if I have to, i will.

I argue profiency with a weapon is probably a good idea.

I have one in my nightstand. With peoples jobs going down the tubes and people more willing then ever to break the law to do for themselves I figured it was better to have one and not need it then need it and not have it.

I'd say go with an Auto-9. Who cares if it's a fictional gun made for RoboCop.

I have grown up around guns all my life, and you should get training if you haven't yet before you pick one up. One of my buds has been around guns all his life and once let someone who hadn't use one of his. After the way the tool acted with his gun (not having any respect for the weapon or the gun owner, in fact), he will never let the man touch a gun again. He was treating it like it was a toy, and it is so not a toy.
