Some good choices there Void (Although F&F is not my kind of movie in any incarnation, lol)
I'll throw mine into the hat ...
20. Lord of the Rings (The Entire Trilogy): I'm not splitting these films up as you just can't watch them seperatly you need the whole story. Resting gently at number 20 spot they are classic fantasy at its best. From the Blarog to the battle of Helms Deep to Shelob the action and fun is always there. Only problem is the films are all so long who has the time to watch them (especially the extended editions
)
19. Alien 3: I know I'm in the minority but I personnally find this to be the best Alien film. Maybe its the mostly all british cast or the gothic setting on a penal colony but I really dig it. No macho marines here just Ripley and some prisoners unequipped to deal with an Alien Dog hybrid. I like it a lot even if some consider it the weakest of the four.
18. The Dark Knight: I like this film a lot which shouldn't suprise most people. No need for intro stories for the hero so we can get on with the story and the action which is very good, not forgetting a very memorable and cool Joker. It isn't near the top of the list though because quite frankly its a bit too real/gritty for a superhero film in my opinion. Maybe the Animated Series rubbed off me too much but it didn't quite nail it for me.
17. Mad Max 2 (aka The Road Warrior): It's all about car chases, gangs fighting over petrol in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and some very elaborate costumes. Enjoyable vehicle carnage action with Mel Gibson.
16. Goodfellas: My favorite gangster film by a mile. Sure Godfather is great but with Goodfellas you can feel it. De Niro, Liotta and Pesci make a film that lasts long in the memory that I can watch againa and again.
15. Iron Man: Good old Tony Stark, you can rely on the playboy millionaire to deliver a good superhero film and it does. Jeff Bridges made for a good if obvious villain. But Downey Jr had Stark spot, some nice special effects and plenty of hot babes certainly helped, but its not my favorite superhero film.
14. The Bourne Identity: A great film that suprised me but seems to just get better each time I watch it. Fromt eh sniper int he field to the mini car chase it all works and I enjoy it all.
13.The Fantastic Four: I love this film, this to me is what the Fantatsic Four are about and superhero films for that matter are about. Four people who work as a team to save the day happily. Now some might argue that Jessica Alba didn't work, but I liked her as Sue and plus she's hot. Meanwhile the other three do a great job as Stretch, Torch and Thing. Some claim they botched Doom but I actually have no problems with this Doom as he fits with the rest of the movie. This film to me felt like a comic book story, the superheroes got be heroic and they didn't mope about it while they did it. Fun for all ages.
12. Clash of the Titans: Harryhausen had to appear, but so many of his films are so much fun. In the end it was a battle between this and Jason and the Argonauts. Sure Jason was cool and all, but for me Clash of the Titans is immense fun and that Medusa scene is what makes it better than Jason, great stuff even if the golden clockwork owl is slightly annoying.
11. Ran: King Lear in Japan with lots and lots of warlords fighting each other and directed by Akira Kurosawa. Nuff said.
10. Commando: If I have had a bad day or need to turn my brain off this is my default film and what every other action film has to live up to. Cheesy one liners, no nonsense plot of good guy chasing down bad guy and more explosions than one needs. Plus the comical Bennet makes me laugh every time. Arnie at his best.
9. Star Wars-A New Hope: Its star wars, it is its own self contained story and it is lots of fun. No down beat ending or ewoks here. Nothing more to say a cracking film.
8. Finding Nemo: Pure fun with a great story and real heart. My favorite Disney/Pixar film so far. Remember Fish are freinds not food.
7. Raiders of the Lost Ark: Keep Die Hard, this is the best action film ever made. So many good moments, and it just keeps going from one to the next. All you need to know is that Top Men worked on this ... Top Men.
6. Flash Gordon: There is no way of describing this film. Some films are carefully planned, some you see coming but I doubt anyone saw this coming. With Queen as an extra cast memeber doing the music this film immensly quotable and outrageously daft. Plus with Max von Sydow as Ming the Mercielss we have one of cinemas best villains. Is it silly? Yes but it is so much fun.
5. Aguirre-The Wrath of God: Not sure how many have heard of this one. Directed by Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) and starring Klaus Kinski this is a film about madness both from what you see and what happened behind the scenes. Its so different to the usual Hollywood fare that it truly astounds me. Plsu some of the images that are captured are amazing (The opening and the finale especially.) I highly recommend this if you haven't seen it.
4. Ghostbusters: It's the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
3. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Clintwood at his best, the best western out there and just a classic all the way through.
2. Jaws: No matter what, this film has it all for me, good actors, great moments of holy crap, classic one liners and Robert Shaw as the shark hunter makes for an ace film.
1. The Thing (1982): This movie will always be my number one film of all time. I don't know what it is about this film but I love the guessing of who is a thing, I love the fact the characters don't get on but don't do anything incredibly stupid like in other films. Also the special effects kick ass through out. Kurt Russel is the man but is he the Thing? Great Fun.
