After losing the ECW title and leaving ECW, he would have had one more main event for a major title before drifting off into a backstage role.

The WWE would have hurt Benoit even more. He always went full force in the ring like Kurt Angle, and getting up in age, the travel schedule wouldn't help him. I don't know they would have let him go part time, especially while still being a draw. If he didn't go to TNA, he'd probably retire from mounting injuries.

I think he'd try one headbutt too many and kill himself, or mentally incapacitate himself, and be forced to retire.

I can't see him being retired - he loved wrestling too much. He was in amazing physical condition when he killed himself, so I can't see him losing it in the space of a couple of years. hard to say.

I wanted to see him do one last heel turn. It was looooooong loooooong overdue. Heel Benoit in the main event, with a title run, could have been awesome. Agreed. Before the incident, I'd been hoping that he'd eventually go back to being a badass heel and stop wearing all those multi-colored tights. I just wanted the Crippler back for one last run.

He would've remained on ECW for a while, and eventually jumped to TNA, before returning to WWE around this time on Smackdown.

I doubt he would have retired. We are talking about a guy who essentially killed himself for the business. Wrestling was all Benoit knew.
He would still be an active wrestler. That much is assured. Eventually he would have transitioned into a road agent position. He wouldnt have left WWE unless they forced him to, and he was the type of guy, like Finlay, Steamboat or Double A, that WWE would have wanted working as an agent training new guys and laying out matches. Especially seeing as he was universally respected and liked.
At any rate, unless he got another bad injury like what happened with his neck, he would still be wrestling. I also believe that WWE would have turned him heel at some point. Probably during his planned ECW Title run to help put over Punk.

Why do some of you people think he'd be retired? The incident took place two years ago and unless he would've suffered some kind of major injury, he'd probably either back on ECW or a midcard guy on Smackdown.

*wipes forehead* Totally thought this was going to be like some kind of crude photoshop*. Carry on.
*Do not take this to mean I would be okaying such a thing. That would be grounds for a locked thread and warnings.

When I heard WWE was bringing up DH Smith, Tyson Kidd and Natalya, I always figured Benoit was going to be somewhat of a mentor to them ... behind the senes and on camera.

I truly believe that people backstage would have noticed irregularities in Benoit's behaviour, and he would have been moved to a part-time schedule to a view of a retiring later on. Yeah, I don't think so. If he was messed up enough to kill his family, I doubt he was "normal" and nobody seemed to notice/care...so I dont think 2 more years would have mattered.

Honestly, i see 4 possibilities.
1. Retired after major injury.
2. Retired, but does so on his own terms and puts over a new up-and-comer.
3. Managing the Hart Dynasty or another Technical Wrestling-type team
4. Released from contract early after noticeable mental/psychological issues, gets help, but wrestling community shuns/blacklists him. Then he Writes a tell-all book outing various wrestlers in ALL promotions (Drugs/Affairs/Etc.)

Where would you see Chris Beniot today with the new era of WWE ? Let's say he hadn't had did what he did. If the Chris Beniot incident had never happened, do you think he would still be wrestling in 2009 ? I always imagine that if he didn't kill himself he'd be more villified than he is.

The real interesting thing to speculate on is how different the wellness policy would be. Though certainly enforced with some frequency beforehand, violations seemed to have become much more serious following the Benoit incident.
