The fact that The Rise and Fall of ECW was one of WWE's best selling dvds which in turn saw One Night Stand '05 put out there which outside of the big four had the 2nd biggest PPV buyrate of that year and this in turn saw the eventual resurrection of the ECW brand. I'd say there's a legacy there somewhere. ....or it could just be curious fans who wanted to see the documentary and see what all the hoopla was about. I mean, hell, I bought the WCCW and AWA ones. It doesn't mean I was a fan of either company (before my time). Also, I know about the PPV buyrate, but I think a lot of it was the curiosity factor. I don't even think any matches were announced for the show! But, if they are such a PPV force, why were all of their own PPV numbers in the toilet?

Because they didn't have the WWE marketing machine behind them or the exposure WWE has? I hadn't realised none of the matches were announced. In other words all they had to say was ECW and they got a massive buyrate! Also it has even been admitted by the likes of Terry Taylor (Forever Hardcore) that WWF (at the time) got a fair few ideas from ECW during the attitude era, which by the way, changed the landscape of wrestling.

I take it that you have no idea what the original ECW was about? No, I know what the original ECW stood for. That's why I said what I said! ;D So do you assume the position for McMahon, Bischoff, or Russo?

Actually, and I could easily be wrong on this, but I think I've heard the original ECW's PPVs had numbers that rivalled or exceeded TNA's.

To all the people who trash the original ECW:
Did you ever attend an (original) ECW show? I've been to so many WWE, TNA, ROH, random indie shows. I've sat everywhere from the nosebleeds to front row ringside. All the shows have been amazing, but nothing will ever compare to the ECW shows I attended at the Elks Lodge. Nothing.
I attended One Night Stand '05 and '06 and even the infamous ECW on SCIFI at the Hammerstein. Even with the WWE influence, I still felt a bit of the incredible atmosphere that I did when attending ECW years before, simply because of the talent on the show, the crowd attending the show, and the man behind (at least partially at this point) the show.
Paul Heyman is the single best creative writer/booker in wrestling. It's a shame some business genius never got behind him to create a new promotion.

Paul definitely needed a Ruben to his Cornette..
Anyone who says ECW didn't change the face of wrestling is sipping on some WWE koolaid so strong I'd like to have the recipe.

If you don't agree with them, you just have to be a homosexual, right? Your argument is about as stupid as The Iron Sheik's, "You don't want to have sex with me?! You must be a lebian!!!!" lol

Haven't looked at the numbers in a few years, but IIRC, the average buyrate was around 3 times what TNA pulls in, with the final ECW PPV getting above a a1.0 which is pretty insane.

TNA's highest-selling PPV to date was Genesis 2006 which had the first bout between Angle and Joe. That clocked up 60,000 buys. Last year they averaged about 28k per PPV. ECW usually got buyrates between 80-100k.
