OK, my idea for a storyline is actually kind of drawn out so stay with me.
Lets begin with New Years Revolution. I think the tag match should actually be a little bit earlier in the show, just to set up for the angle that will happen later. Rated RKO goes over in controversial fasion and takes off. After the match we see DX go after them, looking to finish this tonight.
Later in the show, possibly before the main event, Edge comes out to the ring and says he's right there waiting for DX. Just like with the Flair attack, Orton comes out with a mic and says he found HBK but HHH is nowhere in sight. So just like with Flair, Orton drags an extremely bloodied Shawn Michaels out to the ring. This time instead of just the chair shots Rated RKO have been giving people, they drag him out to the top of the stage and toss him off the edge onto a group of tables and wires (ala the finish to the Matt Hardy/Edge match in 05).
The next night on RAW, Mr. McMhaon comes out to the ring and says that HHH has been banned from RAW for one month out of fear for Rated RKO's safety. However, he will take part in the Royal Rumble match.
Fast forward to the Rumble. Its come down to about 8 or 9 wrestlers, including Edge and Orton. Triple H comes in at number 30 with sledgehammer in tow and absolutely cleans house, tossing out Edge and Orton. He eliminates himself while clotheslining Orton (ala Foley in the 04 Rumble) and chases after both of them with the sledgehammer.
The next night on RAW, Triple H makes his return and demands a one on one match with either member of RKO, as he plans to take them out one by one. After a few weeks of McMhaon and Coaches obstacles, Triple H gets Randy Orton one on one, a month before Wrestlemania, in a hardcore match. The match is an extremelly bloody stunt fest, both guys pull out all the stops and put on an absolute match of the year candidate. In the end however, Triple H destroys Orton and tosses him off the stage, just like Rated RKO did to HBK.
We're now down to Triple H and Edge, the only two survivors of the feud. Triple H gets a one on one match with Edge at WM to finish it. The match is contested under normal rules and Edge pulls off a cheap win due to interference from his new lackeys now that Ortons gone: Chris Masters and Kenny Dykstra.
Triple H, furious, gets a rematch at Backlash in his favorite match: Hell in a Cell. The match comes, and goes on for a while. Triple H goes through Masters and Dykstra and finally gets Edge one on one. Edge gains the upper hand near the end of the match, when to the delight of the crowd, HBK comes running down the ramp. He comes into the ring, stares down Edge, who's cowering in a corner....and super-kicks the hell out of Triple H. Edge covers him and gets the win, as the newly formed stable celebrates.
The next night on RAW, HBK explains that Triple H was using him, and didn't make any effort to help him the night Rated RKO attacked him. While in the hospital, he realized that being Triple H's comedic sidekick was nowhere near his glory days. He realized Edge and Orton were the future of the business, and he wanted to align with them. Edge wins the WWE title and HBK settles into a role as his mentor.
This storyline could also eventually lead into the return of Evolution, with Orton coming back furious that Edge didnt include him in the new group. Batista could make the switch to RAW to reform Evolution. Thoughts?
EDIT: In fact, Orton comes back and slowly wins Triple H's trust. Flair is already on Triple H's side, and Flair is the one that comes up with the idea of how to settle it once and for all: War Games. At Vengeance. This is where Triple H recruits Batista to be the 4th member of the team.
