3 weeks to go, and the playoffs are pretty much locked for the United Conference in the IFL.
The Sioux Falls Storm, still undefeated, have locked up the no. 1 spot, as well as their second straight division crown. They will get a bye into the second round.
The other 5 spots are locked as well. Bloomington, Chicago, Green Bay, Omaha, and Reading are all locked into the Playoffs, with Reading having at worst the no. 3 spot locked with their division crown.
In the Intense Conference, the surprise of the year would be the Colorado ICE. 10-1, first division crown in franchise history, and if they win one more game, a first round bye in the playoffs and the no. 1 seed locked.
It's nearly playoff time, and I can't wait.

Right now, who could be the Cinderella playoff team in the IFL? I would say either the Reading Express or the Wyoming Cavalry.

As for the Bricktown Brawlers, well, they sucked this year. They still have 2 games left. At best, they can end up 4-10, at worst, 2-12.

And the perfect season is over, as Omaha stuns Sioux Falls in the closing seconds, 41-37. I wanted a perfect season, but at least it happened in the regular season and not the playoffs.

And the Sioux Falls Storm defeat the Green Bay Blizzard, 52-12, in the United Conference Championship. They host United Bowl III next Saturday against the Tri-Cities Fever.

Well, the IFL season has come to an end, and here are my thoughts on the season.
Dawn of a New Dynasty: It took them two years after an insurance violation and a corrupt owner nearly killed the franchise, but the Sioux Falls Storm reached the top of the mountain again, defeating the Tri-Cities Fever, 37-10, in United Bowl III. After nearly being undefeated in the regular season with only a loss to the Omaha Beef, the Storm rolled through the playoffs, and brought home the championship. Now many people may say, "Oh, they just won because they had Chris Dixon, the two-time league MVP, and a few other players from Billings." Yes, and that's what you do when you need to win a championship. You go out and get the pieces needed to complete the puzzle.
I got a Fever....: Seeing the Tri-Cities Fever in the title game really didn't surprise me. They had the look of a contender the whole season, even defeating the Colorado Ice twice, once in the regular season, and once in the playoffs. I wouldn't be surprised to see this team back in the hunt next year for the IFL Crown.
Ice, Ice Baby: This one really surprised me. The Colorado Ice were never really a title contender in their short 5-year history, never once going above .500, but still making the playoffs twice, although losing both times in the first round. But this year was different. Thanks to some additions as well from the defunct Billings Outlaws, the Ice were able to start 7-0 and looked to be almost unstoppable. But the second half showed a different story, as the Ice went 4-3 in the second half of the season to end it 11-3. But there were some cracks in the armor, and the Ice fell to the Fever in the Divisional round of the Playoffs. Will they be back next year? I'm not so sure of it.
We hardly knew thee: For the second year in a row, a team was unable to finish the IFL season without issues. Last year, the Alaska Wild folded after 9 games due to financial issues. This year, it was the expansion team of the Bricktown Brawlers that had issues. By week 13, nearly the entire roster was released and a replacement team was used to finish out the season. After the season, the team folded, leaving the possibility of indoor or arena football being gone from Oklahoma City. It's a shame, as Oklahoma City has had a team almost every year since 2000, starting with the Oklahoma Wranglers of the AFL, and then the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz of the af2 and AFL.
Wild Thing?: After back to back seasons where they made the United Conference Championship game, it looked like the Wichita Wild would be another threat to make the IFL Championship. But it was a different story this year, as the Wild started off the season 1-6, and were getting pounded left and right. But then, changes were made, and the Wild came roaring back in the second half, going 5-2, with their only losses to in-division rivals the Omaha Beef and the Sioux Falls Storm. I feel with that Wichita will come back next season and make a run back to the IFL Crown.
These are some of my thoughts on the 2011 IFL season.

Aaron Garcia completes his 17-year journey to the top of the mountain, as the Jacksonville Sharks bring home the gold, defeating the Arizona Rattlers, 73-70, in Arena Bowl XXIV. Garcia set an Arena Bowl record 402 passing yards, and threw the game-winning touchdown as time expired.

The IFL released their 2012 schedule on their website. Also, they've decided to forgo divisions for the 2012 season and just set up two 8 team conferences.
United Conference:
Bloomington Extreme Cedar Rapids Titans (expansion team) Chicago Slaughter Green Bay Blizzard Lehigh Valley Steelhawks Omaha Beef Reading Express Sioux Falls Storm
Intense Conference:
Allen Wranglers Colorado Ice Everett Raptors (formerly Kent Predators/Seattle Timberwolves) Nebraska Danger New Mexico Stars (expansion team) Tri-Cities Fever Wichita Wild Wyoming Cavalry
Lot of teams either folded, suspended operations for 2012, or moved to a different league.

You really can't blame them for doing this. Two of the teams (Arizona and Oklahoma City/Bricktown) folded before the season ended. Indoor football's great, but it's only a step above the new ABA in terms of francise stability. At least those leagues, unlike the ABA, understand that. The Indianapolis Enforcers finally have a home for next year. Sadly, it's a dump that may ensure that it won't have a chance to move to another league if the CIFL goes belly-up. No disrespect to the Forum at Fishers. Also, in the AFL, Tulsa moved to San Antonio and Dallas folded.

I think one of the major problems with arena/indoor football is the owners don't want to take time to let the team grow with the community and the cities. They want results NOW. Unfortunately, in this day and age, you can't get instant results. It's just not how it works. Plus it doesn't help when teams move all around to different leagues. I mean, here's how the list goes down: Moved to another league: Abilene Ruff Riders Amarillo Venom Corpus Christi Hammerheads Louisiana Swashbucklers Saginaw Sting Sioux City Bandits West Texas Roughnecks The rest are pretty much either folded or "inactive." Also, I'm somewhat disappointed that the Dallas Vigilantes folded. I was a major Dallas Desperados fan, and even had a jersey of theirs. But everyone thought they'd have the same success they did when they were the Desperados, and when they didn't, I think people gave up on them.

But everyone thought they'd have the same success they did when they were the Desperados, and when they didn't, I think people gave up on them. Your point comes across exactly. What can doom a team is if ownership wants immediate results and when they don't see them, they either move out or close up shop. In fact, after the 2010 season, the Milwaukee Iron were planning on moving to another place because attendance wasn't up to par for their inagural year in the revived AFL. One such instance was here in Indy, but that was stopped because Pacers Sports and Entertainment insisted a $50,000 per game fee for the franchise, which I find absurd (but, then again, this group has dealt with money woes from Day One). So they stayed and adopted the old Mustangs nickname, yet attendance actually got worse. I'm worried that, after this season, they might end up folding. It's mostly regional-based, and if you want results, you have to show patience and give plenty of time. That's why the biggest fanbases in the AFL are also some of the oldest teams (Tampa Bay, Orlando, San Jose, and Arizona). I can also point out an example with Spokane, and despite them being the smallest market in that league, and having survived (unlike Alabama and Bossier-Shreveport), their fanbase is clearly one of the most supportive (same can also be said for their Spokane Chiefs, but virtually every American team in the WHL has a large fanbase). I can show images from the 2010 Arena Bowl where Spokane Arena was literally filled to the brim with Shock fans. When it comes to Dallas, that's saddening, especially when you see the attendance for the Vigilantes and then you look at the old days with the Desperados. I think what might've doomed the team was that they couldn't have the Desperados nickname, as it was being held by, of all people, Jerry Jones. Without that, some people felt this was a second-class team trying to replace what had quickly became the old guard, and I think that's what ended them.
