Greatest. Show. Ever. (At least until Arrested Development came along, but that's debatable.)
It breaks my heart that I always tell people this is one of my favorite shows, and 4 out of 5 times it's always "Which one was that?"

It breaks my heart that I always tell people this is one of my favorite shows, and 4 out of 5 times it's always "Which one was that?" Every single person I know remembers "The show with Balki Bartokomous" I just finished watching the series. I really enjoyed watching them over again but I see the show differently now as an adult. 1. after 6 years in the country you'd figure Balki would have learned the language and stopped being so naive 2. Jennifer and Larry really weren't a very good match. But more than that, I really can't see Maryanne and Jennifer being friends in real life 3. How many times does Balki have to be screwed by one of Larry's plans before he tells him to shut up?

It's a case of a show that was far superior to its spin-off (Family Matters), yet met with less success and notoriety. Seriously, out of all TGIF shows, it's the one that was genuinely brilliant. The physical comedy and levels of farce were sublime. With this one post, you have proven your brilliance. Well done, sir! P.S. - I had the biggest crush on Melanie Wilson, a.k.a. "Jennifer":

Mark Linn-Baker has to be the funniest straight man in history. And you, good lady, are the most brilliant woman on this forum! Good job in recognizing Mark's amazing talent.

I'm actually surprised nobody's done the Hollywood remake of this yet. In Russia, they put together a remake taking place in Russia with Balki instead being an outsider from some small former-Russian country. If it ever comes through to my Russian TV channels, I'm so watching.

Mark Linn-Baker has to be the funniest straight man in history. So very, very true. Sadly you never hear much from him anymore. Although, I think he's been working behind the scenes on a lot of tv shows and movies, mostly as a director or producer. Although, I saw him on Law and Order: Criminal Intent. I was like, "That's not a criminal...that's Cousin Larry."

He is a co-owner of a restaurant/theatre (West Bank Cafe) and also heads up a theatre company (New York Stage and Film Company).

I remember he had a role in the film version of the comedy stage show "Noises Off"; you could tell he felt really at home on stage.

Mark and everyone else were great in it. Honestly, I really enjoyed it...until I saw it on stage. "Noises Off" on stage shames the movie...ok, maybe that's harsh, but that show is just designed to be seen live.
