No. Just no. It was already a stretch having a guy who dresses up as a fyling rat to fight crime as a serious, grim and gritty action film.
The f***ing ninja turtles, now that's just insane.

Well, the original TMNT comics WERE considerably darker than the cartoon incantation, and were debatably (if that's even a word) not really kid-oriented.

If you think Batman doesn't work as serious and gritty, you clearly have no grasp on the character. As for the Turtles, their original stories where full of violence, blood, and blatant killing. It can work, as it's already worked before.

Re: Grit Yes, I know that. But every single time a new turtles project is discussed, the producer promises that the series will be grittier, and closer to the original comic. It's like the man said;

So maybe it'll be close to the original comics, but correct me if I'm wrong on this: Weren't the original comics also PARODIES of these kind of takes on superhero stories?

It's a fan movie anyway, so I don't see what the big deal is.

Does everything in the world have to be re-hashed? Does anybody have an original idea anymore?

Does everything in the world have to be re-hashed? Does anybody have an original idea anymore? Not just rehashed. Rehashed DARKLY. Seriously, the reason Batman and The Dark Knight did so well was because they were well written Batman stories. Not because moviegoers what dark movies. They scrapped a pitch for a Superman movie a few months back because it wasn't dark enough. Or something like that. A Superman movie doesn't need to be dark, it needs to be interesting. If you're going to invest a huge amount of money into a Superman film, don't make Superman's enemy be a huge chunk of land. That's lame. Luthor's a great comic villain, but he doesn't translate too well on film. Ally him with Bizarro or something! Sorry to kinda derail, but darker doesn't always mean better. Things just need to be written well. In my opinion, yeah, the original Turtles comics were great, but in the same light, the first Ninja Turtles movie was astounding. It mixed action, comedy, and family friendliness that brought it mainstream.

I can understand wanting to make a TMNT fan-movie that shows the Turtles learning the ropes in sort of a "Year One" mold, but the reason the Ninja Turtle concept has staying power is due to how tongue-in-cheek it is. There's only so much SRS that can go into a movie about anthropomorphic reptiles who fight crime and eat pizza before the audience starts laughing.
I'm a Turtle fan and I can admit that it's not a highbrow concept. But best of luck to these guys anyway.

There have been like 17 different incarnations of the TV show and, IIRC, a computer animated movie a few years back. They need to just let it be.

I think he was agreeing with the rehash thing and just adding another layer.
I hate the whole "EVERYTHING MUST BE DARK AND GRITTY" revolution that is happening now. Are we back in 1996 or something?

Blood spattering in every frame. Everything was extreme and "dark" to the point of being funny.
