Star Wars, I suppose. Its mythos is a bit easier to keep up with.

Are we talking better universe, or who would win in a fight?
If we're talking about the universe, Star Wars always seemed a little more real to me than most of Star Trek, Jedi aside. The only exception is DS9, which was my favorite series.
If we're talking who would win in a fight, the Star Wars universe uses lasers and proton torpedos, which wouldn't even scratch the shields on most Starfleet vessels. So, Star Trek would win, hands down. Hell, you could put the Enterprise E up against the entire Imperial fleet, and the Enterprise would carve straight through them.

Star Wars. Other than the 2009 movie, I don't care about Star Trek.

I would say Star Wars was better. The new Star Wars movies though sucked and I thought the 2009 Star Trek movie was done much better.

Um, no its not. Its a stupid arbitrary decision between two franchises that frankly don't resemble each other very much. Star Trek v. Battlestar Galatica or Babylon 5 might make since. Star Trek v. Star Wars is like Saving Private Ryan v. Inglourious Basterds.

Its the 2 biggest Sci Fi franchises ever..
for me its Star Wars, only DS9 in Trek came close to reaching its awesomeness
as for a straight fight, Star wars eapons aren't lasers as we know em the bigger ships use turbo lasers and blasters (which actually are probably more in common with B5s PPGs in operation as its an explosive gas ) In the game Bridge Commander I put one Star Wars Star Destroyer against a Fedeation fleet, it demolished em
plus Star Wars has Boba Fett

I like both actually but they're hard to compare since was developed for television, the other film. Also alot more Star Trek hours compared to Star Wars.
That could be a good thing since there is alot of episodes you can watch but Star Wars, you can watch the Original Trilogy and then you can be done. It's also a problem for the Prequels. There was a bunch of stuff to tie the two trilogy's but I don't feel the Prequels are necessary viewing. There were story arcs in Deep Space Nine but I always felt up to watch them.
As far as the Star Trek movies go, I don't think in their look or feel they match any of the Star Wars Original films. I go by the Original cast movies since they're the only really good Star Trek movies. Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home are the closest in my opinion., I do think Search for Spock was good but not as good.
Even though the Next Gen movies mostly look great, they lack in everything else needed to be good. Biggest problem is that aside from Patrick Stewart, the cast should be on TV, just not made for the big screen. And even though I'm meh on all the Star Wars Prequels, I'd probably still take them over any Next Gen movie.

Would you mind if I occasionally dropped that phrase on the rare occasions I drop in on SW vs ST websites?

As others have said, they're very dissimilar franchises. Star Trek is a set of morality plays using science fiction backdrops as allegories for contemporary issues. Star Wars is pure fantasy entertainment. It's impossible to compare them at anything but the most superficial level.

I absolutely love Star Wars, although I do enjoy Star Trek: Next Generation. I do have to agree with everyone that the two franchises are not comparable at all.
So, as far as my favorite franchise, I have to stay with my beloved Star Wars. Again, Picard and crew captured my imagination, but Luke and the rest touched my heart.
In a fight, it depends...are goofy cosmic beings like Q involved? If so, then I guess Star Trek wins easily. If not, then I think Star Wars wins. They have the mystical element of the force, lightsabers, and other things. Of course, the Trek fans all claim that Star Wars uses "lasers and proton torpedos" which supposedly are easily deflected by Star Fleet ships, I find this to be the hogwash of some Star Trek fan/writer putting in "immunity to Star Wars named weapons" over any actual evidence. Most Star Wars guns are referred to as "blasters" which is so generic a term that you really can't say "we have 'blaster proof' shields!!" Besides, Star Wars droids like HK-47 would easily kick the stuffing out of androids like Data, and the power of the Death Star is pretty much unmatched. It just all depends...which time period you're fighting in, ect.

I can speak toward the X-wing/Tie Fighter franchise referring to their weapons as lasers and proton torpedoes. In those games, Tie Fighters were unshielded, and would die after about three hits. That points to a lesser intensity weapon. Would turbo lasers refer to a higher intensity laser, or the rate of fire? I don't think it's ever been clarified. However, range would also heavily favor Trek. Trek ships could hit each other from thousands of km away. SW ships almost have to be on top of each other. A Trek ship could just get the other ship in range, stick it in reverse, and plink away.

Star Trek. I have never liked Star Wars in any capacity, while I can at least claim to like TNG and the new movie.

Han Solo and Boba Fett could tag up against all of Star Trek and the rest of Star Wars and still win.
Star Trek is awesome though, the whole damn thing.

Boba Fett can take on the entire Star Fleet... Fleet... with his bare hands and win! He'd beat the hell out of those ships!

Unfair question really. Both are different flavors of science fiction, one that is more widely liked across audience demographics, the other a more selective audience.
Though who else was sorta bugged with the Star Wars stuff in the new Star Trek movie? Main character sees home planet destroyed, hero's father (who shaped said son's destiny) "dies" shortly after his birth, stranded hero deals with nasty creature in a cave on an ice planet, both said guys share same dasterdly villain, blah blah...
Sure someone will pick apart and complain.
