My brain is racked trying to figure this out, personally. I'm also kind of curious about the criminal case that results. Obviously this is Trinity's MO, and the bathtub murder was next on the list. But Rita has three kids, not two. Also toss in the fact that Harrison was left in a pool of his mother's blood, exactly like Dexter. So, it was obviously a personal message to Dexter. I'm not tossing the idea of someone else killing Rita in the tub mind you, but this cannot be ignored. Either Trinity found out what happened to Dexter in the shipping container, or we have a copycat killer tailing Dexter. Either way, I am intrigued. Guess we know why Arthur was late getting the car, but still, when/how did all of it happen? Also, how the hell did Dexter find Arthur in the middle of nowhere when he broke down? Next season is gonna be huge all the same. While it was getting a bit obvious Rita was going (stuff was getting WAY too mushy and perfect and romantic between her and Dex, in the "don't know what you got til it's gone" sense), this finale had the hands above my head, freaking out. Incredible conclusion.

ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/12/13/dexter-season-5-finale-postmortem/Two things out of this... 1.) I would be pissed if Rita came back the way of Harry. A.) It makes this ending seem kind of lacking. She's gone, she should be gone for good. Luckily, I read the interview and it doesn't look that way. WHEW! B.) Dexter doesn't need the annoyance of two ghosts, let alone Harry and Rita dueling it out. Too much insanity. 2.) That alternate ending would've PISSED ME OFF, haha.

If you watched the discussion between Michael C. Hall (HOLY BUZZCUT), and Lithgow, Trinity was definitely the one who killed Rita. But still, Harrison sitting in the blood is too friggin' symbolic. Trinity must have found out.

Probably because I watched the finale On Demand. link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid56075175001?bctid=57029257001Yeah, holy buzzcut, Batman.

Trinity must have found out. i don't think Trinity found out, i think its was just a coincidence, especially since there was no way he could have found out that quick. as we learned from Doakes in season two there are no records on the early years of Dexter, and it took Deb going through Harry's CI files one by one then getting help from one of them before she found out about Dexter. there is just no way he could have found out Dexter's past that fast. most likely thing that happened was Trinity killed Rita, left Harrison to fend for himself, and Harrison crawled into the puddle and stayed there until Dexter found him.

{Spoiler}Tell your Mom a stranger on the internet says "Thank You" {Spoiler} i didn't tell her, she mentions it every episode {Spoiler}Both Cody & Astor are jnr Dexters, someone knows Dex's secret and one of the main supporting cast is already dead, while one dead character is still alive.

Also, how the hell did Dexter find Arthur in the middle of nowhere when he broke down? He was hiding in the trunk the entire time. He removed the oil cap and was waiting for the car to break down before sneaking up on Arthur. Although I guess he's fortunate that this happened at night on a road with no other traffic. Seems to be far too convenient when you think about it, but I'd prefer not to over-analyze this part of the episode ;D BTW, I think Harrison sitting in his mother's blood was more coincidence than anything. I don't see how Arthur would've had time to figure out Dexter's past. Hell, it took Debra as long as it did to figure out the truth about Dexter's childhood, despite having so many resources at her disposal.

Dexter knew he'd scraped up all the money he could and was getting his car fixed (and painted), which all points to one thing: he's skipping town. not to mention that since the police now know he's the Trinity killer, there's a major manhunt for him, so he'd most likely stay off the major highways and interstates and stick to less populated roads.

Guess we know why Arthur was late getting the car, but still, when/how did all of it happen? It happened after Dexter went to the shop. While Dexter went to the shop looking for Arthur, Rita came home looking for her id. Arthur was still looking for Dexter. I think his plan was to kill Dexter and flee after doing so. Arthur discovered Dexter's address. When he went to Dexter's home, he found Rita instead of Dexter.

Are the books any good? Maybe that's something to get into. The second book is absolutely amazing. The third one is...weird. A bit supernatural in the way it tackles the Dark Passenger. I'm still working on the fourth one, but so far it's almost on par with Dearly Devoted Dexter.

I have to say what an amazing season! What an amazing ending. Blown away by it! Showtime did well to keep me hooked from beginning to end. And Jon Lithgow was awesome as Trinity. And I was a fan of Jimmy Smits as Miguel Prado. But Lithgow has risen as one of the best guest stars I've seen in a TV show, on a par with Steve Buscemi and Joe Pantoliano in The Sopranos!

Wow just saw it (I know loooong overdo) and believe me, I got spoilered like 20 Minutes after it aired because of the freakin Internet and me getting on Messenger and then me screaming for 10 Minutes...........ANYWAY!
Great Season Finale, Great that Rita is finally dead. Too bad that Dexter is a single father of 3 kid´s now, don´t know what the writers will do but I am sure they won´t disappoint.

The popular opinion amongst fan discussions that I have read seem to be that the Grandparents take Cody and Astor and Dex handles Harrison. I just don`t understand how Dex could manage three kids on his own.

If the Grandparent's take the kids {Spoiler}that makes me sad we won't get to see the "Cody is a Dexter-In-Training" plot from the books. Although, it could easily be passed on to Harrison...but they'd have to fast forward the series quite a bit.

Ok after thinking about it alot, the only thing that I want to see in Season 5 is Dexter getting caught.....BY DEBRA!!!
Do not care, Dexter can even go psycho and kill anyone or cry for 11 episodes. But Debra has to catch Dexter in the Final Episode.
I don´t want to see some training of some stupid kids, Dexter has to get caught someday and since Rita is dead and Debra already found out all of this about Dexter with the brother and so on, I think she will find out what Dexter really is about. And of course fall in love doing so...lets face it that woman always falls in love with someone
