Also, this is my biggest, hugest, incredibly titanic complaint about the PS3. Downloads from PSN have somewhat of a DRM set up. You can only download something 5 times under an account.
Granted that is a petty thing to complain about, but when compared to the fact that you can download things an infinite amount of times from Xbox Live, it is kind of a big thing in comparison.

my sister's boyfriend has a 360. she got him the UFC game for christmas. two hours after she bought it, she called him to see what he's doing, and he told her it got the Red Ring of Death I had just gotten to the create a fighter mode when my 360 bit the dust. And after my dealings with Microsoft Customer Support, I wasn't going to replace the snorking thing. But I capitulated and finally upgraded mine. I have both systems, and I like the PS3. But it depends on what you're in to. If you like playing first person shooters online, you might want to go with the 360. I find their online subscription service is pretty good. But for me, I like the PS3 better, especially with the fact that it serves as a Blu Ray player, and if you have a decent television set, it's worth it.

But it depends on what you're in to. If you like playing first person shooters online, you might want to go with the 360. I find their online subscription service is pretty good. If we have to break the systems down by which genres are better on which, I think it looks like this: - Action/Adventure = Tie, though PS3 controller is slightly more comfortable for these games as the face buttons aren't as hard as the 360's. - Shooters(Both first and third person) = 360, the controller was built with these genres in mind, plus nearly every game in this genre have online and Xbox Live has more bodies to plow through. - Racing = 360....for now. Once again, the 360 controller was made for racing games, and the 360 has slightly more racing games and with better overall quality, but PS3 has the king of all racers coming, Gran Turismo. - Fighting = PS3, but only if you go by the default controllers. If you get an arcade stick, either system works, but I'd give a slight edge to 360 for having more opponents via XBL. - Sports = Tie, can't go wrong on either system. If either one were to have an advantage, it would be 360 for, yet again, a higher body count. - RPGs = 360. Sure the PS3 is slowly catching up in terms of RPGs, and many RPGs that were 360 first are getting extra content on PS3(per Sony's rules), but the 360 just has MORE RPGs. And until something happens, it has at least one guaranteed exclusive RPG series in Mass Effect. - Music/Rhythm = Tie, the only edge 360 has here is it has more music/rhythm games solely because of Guitar Hero 2 being on the system, but not PS3. - Strategy = 360, both suck for strategy games, but they also have some gems like Civilization Revolution and Overlord. However, the 360 has the slight edge in that it also has some other good strategy games like Battle for Middle Earth 2 and Halo Wars. - Simulation = Tie, there isn't really a simulation market on either system. That's pretty much how I see it. Both are overall good, however the 360 slightly squeaks out the overall edge due to 3 factors: better controller for certain genres, has more people to play against, and simply has more games in that genre. But really, with most games multiplatform now, the only things you are really missing out on is the back library to the systems.

Also, they fixed the RROD, guys. Yeah people still RROD, but all of those consoles were made before September 2008. Any 360 made after September 2008 has pretty much a 0 percent chance of RROD. Dunno where that claim has come from, but I'll believe it when I see it. Was thinking of getting a 360 soon, but then I remembered how shoddy they are. Great console, spoiled for me by the build quality. So I was thinking of waiting til next gen to see what happens with the next Xbox but that seems so far away, that I will wait to see if these latest models are improved before picking one up.

They changed some of the parts inside the 360. They got rid of the parts that were causing the RRoD and replaced it with new components that won't RRoD....as much. The ring of death is caused by overheating. The new parts MS put in makes it to where the only way it SHOULD overheat is if you misuse the 360. Like say put it in a place where the air vents aren't allowed to properly vent.

Depends.
If you are looking for a all around entertainment system (something to watch HD/Blu-ray movies on), I'd go for the PS3.
If you want a system that is for strictly gaming, I'd go for the 360.
I would look into the what games appeal to you (especially the console exclusive titles) and then make a decision.
That's just my opinion, though. Both are pretty good systems.

PS3 has the king of all racers coming, Gran Turismo. Damn, where is Loki when you need him? Eh, I guess I have to fill in. I would say Gran Turismo is the king of all racers only if you buy into Sony's ludicrous "REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR" hype which everyone knows is bulls***, I played more realistic driving games on the PC in 1998. The GT series is fun and addictive, sure, but I wish it wasn't marketed as the pinnacle of racing game realism when it clearly isn't (this also applies to Forza Motorsport, but to a lesser extent). Granted, I have not played Gran Turismo 5, but I'm going to be very surprised if it is considerably better than Forza 3. Which, quite frankly, is not the be-all-end-all of racing games either, I would say that honor belongs to I-Racing on the PC. Or perhaps rFactor, also on the PC. Depends. If you are looking for a all around entertainment system (something to watch HD/Blu-ray movies on), I'd go for the PS3. If you want a system that is for strictly gaming, I'd go for the 360. I have to disagree with the whole 360 has more games argument. That was true like 2 or 3 years ago when the PS 3 wasn't even getting up and running. But now? I can only think of the new Halo game as a the only 360 exclusive this year. The majority of the games are multiplatform and I believe Sony has come out with about 4 or 5 exclusive titles this year alone.

When I'm talking about the 360 having more games, I'm talking about the games that have already came out. The 360 has a bigger currently released library than the PS3 does by a LARGE margin. It is likely the PS3 will never catch up in terms of the amount of games, because as you said, most games are multiplatform now. Since, I'd say 2008, the two systems have had an equal amount of games, yes, but you have to remember all those games that came out on the 360 from 2005-early 2008 that the PS3 did not even get a chance to see.

I'd say that if your friends are suggesting you get a 360, you should if you plan on playing online. Why get a PS3 if you have no one to play with (even though there's nothing wrong with that, I hardly play online myself)?
If this was a year or so ago, I'd say 360 without a doubt. For a while, the PS3 was just a Blu-Ray player that just so happened to play Metal Gear Solid 4. But in the past year or so, Sony has really stepped up with their game selection. So right now it pretty much comes down to whether or not you want online gaming (unless you know a bunch of people with PS3s) or do you want a Blu-Ray player?

Both systems are worth owning, but I'd still give the slight edge to the 360 unless you REALLY want a Blu-Ray player.
Also, what games are you most interested in? Even with multiplatform games, some are just better on one system vs. the other in terms of performance and other stuff.

Majority of the games are made for the 360 I believe, and is ported to the PS 3 which is really lazy. You look at a game like Uncharted 2 and compare it to a multi-plat game and the difference is really noticeable. It's like the developers don't even try. NBA 2K10 looks great on the 360, and it looks like a shinier PS 2 game on the Playstation 3.

I have both systems and both have their strengths and their weaknesses. The 360 of course, still suffers from the RROD, maybe not as bad as it once did but it is still there to an extent. But the games are usually slightly better on there (And achievements are way better than trophies). I play every game that is on both systems on my 360 without question. However, the PS3 is a GREAT high def dvd player. And being a huge movie nerd, it gets the most usage out of any of my systems based on that feat alone. It's an upconverting dvd player and for $300 bucks to get bluray, a system and an upconverting dvd player.. which is needed for a high def TV (in my opinion).. the PS3 has more value over all.
In terms of exclusive games.. 360 has Halo and Gears of War that are must plays (although I feel Gears is SLIGHTLY overrated. And the PS3 has Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Uncharted series.

I have both. Just got my PS3 recently. Also at the same time I got my 360 about 3 years ago and (knocks on wood) never had one problem with it. I guess it depends on what games you are looking forward to, and if one is gonna be exclusive to a specific system.

The PS3 is going to win out in the "Japanese Exclusives" department (Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls, MGS 4), as well as "Second Party Exclusives" (ie : Uncharted, inFAMOUS, etc.)department, but the 360 is a worthy system with plenty of good games, and Microsoft really managed to step it up in the publisher support area (which was what killed the original X-Box, IMO, but we've managed to see games like Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Devil May Cry, and Bayonetta upcoming, hit Microsoft's system, where last generation they wouldn't have).
But I really think that FF13, despite getting a 360 version, is going to be the death of the 360, and the last of the Next-Gen (or PS3) holdouts jump on board (especially if those same people want the FF13 spinoff games), and the PS3 will ride that momentum.
But as for right now, they're both good systems, as far as the library goes.

Even with multiplatform games, some are just better on one system vs. the other in terms of performance and other stuff. Funny thing is, I really don't care about the console exclusives and what-not. I usually prefer a good sports game or racing game. I only have one first person shooter and it's Medal of Honor: Land of the Rising Sun. I haven't gotten that big into either Call of Duty or Halo. I wouldn't mind Call of Duty, as it looks pretty fun when I played demos on the 360 back in college. But yeah, I'm kinda a bland guy when it comes to games. Madden, NCAA, NBA, NASCAR, you name it. I thought Gran Turismo would be great, but when I played GT 4, I wasn't impressed. Also, Blu-Ray isn't something that really tickles my fancy. If I have a DVD player, I'm good with it. My two main games I would be getting at first is All-Pro Football 2K8 and EA Sports MMA. I like ESPN NFL 2K5, and I thought APF 2K8 would be fun, since it has legends and customization. And Forza 3 actually looks kinda fun. I looked on the back, and it shows DRAG RACING, and I was like, whoa. Drag Racing? Has it finally become popular enough? My main issue with the 360 is still the controller, as I'm not 100% sure on the left analog stick being up where the D-pad usually is. But as I hold it more, it actually feels right for some reason. Don't know why.
