Green Day, Mickey Rourke and Robert Downey jr are the ones I can think of at the top of my head. Green Day? They never went away to come back in the first place. Around the time of "Warning" they were starting to decline in popularity.

The Wrestler saved Mickey Rouke's career I'd say Sin City did first. THANK YOU! Me and my friend talked about this when The Wrestler was getting big hype. We were like, "Did nobody see Sin City?" Rourke was the motherf***ing man in that. People were even talking that he should have gotten an Oscar Nomination for that movie, even though it was never going to happen. But yeah, I don't see why his performance in that is so overlooked now. But didn't he say he didn't want to be in Sin City 2? I heard he said that some time back. That sucks. If true. But I also heard that he would return. So, let's hope.

Kiefer Sutherland Before 2001, he was just some actor who had one known role (Lost Boys) and was mainly playing small parts and hanging on his father's name. Now he's Jack F'n Bauer. That's probably the best example. Earlier in 2001 there was some portion of a Maxim article that emphasized how down and out Kiefer was. Oh how did he prove them wrong. Since somebody mentioned Britney I'll also bring up Jessica Simpson. Her pop career was fading up until that MTV show. Then she became bigger than she was before. And while I'm at it, seems like a lot of people who had VH1 shows certainly got quite the exposure they haven't gotten in years. It all started when Flava Flav and Brigitte Nielsen were dating on the Surreal Life. That became a show. Then another show came of Flava's search for a new woman. Then they made a similar show with Bret Michaels. I would think that this greatly influenced the trend of anyone who hadn't been in the public eye in a long time getting a new lease on life. That, and the Osbournes. Also, prior to American Idiot I believe Green Day was opening for Blink-182. And then thanks to American Idiot they were headlining stadium shows, so yeah, that's a comeback.
