I only have 1 question Why in the hell would you move to China? A fondness for Chinese women?

So....they are naming the movie after the Japanese martial arts, and keeping the teacher's name as a Japanese name(Miyagi), but they moved it to China, he's learning kung fu, the Chinese martial art, and his teacher is played by a Chinese actor.
Do they REALLY think we are that ignorant that we wouldn't be able to tell the difference between China and Japan?
Wait, it is Hollywood, OF COURSE they thought we'd be that ignorant.

How long into the movie before we hear somebody call him Bruce Leroy? Speaking of remakes...have you heard about this new "Last Dragon" remake? Just checking. ________________________________________________________________ "Jacket off" = the new "Wax on. Wax off."?

Jackie Chan's character is going to be named "Mr. Han" not Miyagi...
It may sound Petty but I think Jaden Smith is physically too small right now for this role to be taken seriously

Probably because I've never seen it but this looks... better than the original. More fluid, has a nice twist on the original story, my interest in China itself is enough to hold my interest and it's got someone who acually knows martial arts to be Mr. Miyagi.

Hell, except for basic premise this is turning into a new movie entirely. They might as well have kept the name The Kung Fu Kid, cause this is starting to stray away from Karate Kid.

Im happy about the fact that they are using a new name instead of Miyagi. I also agree that they should have kept the Kung Fu Kid name...

Jackie Chan rules. That, in and of itself, merits a rental from me. Anything more than that is pushing it.
Hell, I sat through Around the World in 80 Days (which I grew to actually enjoy, oddly enough) for Jackie.

I could see kids liking this movie. And I think that is probably what the producers are going for. I don't think they really care what most 18-35 year old males will think of it. They aren't the target audience here. The original Karate Kid was a bit more accessible to an older audience since they were teenagers.

I only have 1 question Why in the hell would you move to China? Strongest growing economy in the world, gonna be a lot of jobs open over there for English speakers. I know a family who are moving over soon because the dad got a job in Bejing.

Jackie would be the only reason I'd see this movie. I have several problems with it:
1. (probably the most petty and nitpicky but...) Dre's haircut...gah, the dreadlock/cornrows look is just sickening.
2. I think the movie worked better when the kids were teenagers. Right now it looks like Jackie is beating the crap out of a bunch of nine year olds...he comes off sort of as a bully. At least Miyagi was much smaller than Johnny and his Kobra Kai goons.
3. Is there no Kobra Kai? That and Kreese were kinda my favorite part of the original!! I was really hoping that Will Smith would cast himself in that role (as was rumored at one time) just because I think it'd be interesting to see him as the villain against his son.
4. (This isn't a complaint, just a comment) It kind of looks like they're combining elements of the first and second movies. Could be interesting.
5. I have to throw my hat in with those that wanted to call this "The Kung Fu Kid." I think it would have just fit much better.

It doesn't look near as bad as I thought it would. It looks way better than Never Back Down which was an extremely cheap rip off of the Karate Kid. At least this one doesn't hide that fact.
Obviously this movie is being garnered towards more of a kids up to 13 years of age audience. That is the reason I don't mind that they casted Will Smith's kid. People already judging his acting without even seeing him in more than one movie is a little petty don't you think?

He's been in at least two films so far....and he was the weakest actor in both movies I saw him in. Now, granted that can EASILY be chalked up to him being, you know, a f***ing kid, but still.

I don't care if he's a kid; if you're being out-acted by KEANU, you need to quit acting immediately.

Like I said previously, the only thing that makes this movie remotely worth checking out is Jackie Chan. .....and hell, knowing Hollywood, he's probably gonna die in some cheap attempt to make us sympathize with the brat.
