This sucks. I know how you're feeling. I remember when we had to put our dog down who I grew up with. She was 15 and we tried everything, it was just cruel to keep her alive she couldn't even walk. Pets become part of the family and it never gets easier.

Check out my avatar, to the left.
It's been over a year, and I still get a little misty eyed from time to time. It's just a hard thing to move on from sometimes.

We lost both of our dogs within a few months of each other...must be three years ago now. You don't forget 'em. We all miss them, even now. The thing about a pet is that it's just...there. No complications, no answering back, nothing. Just a companion. My dogs saw me through losing a longterm girlfriend, and couldn't be more comforted than they made me.
This year, for Christmas, my little brother's got my dad this awesome canvas print of them both together to put on his office wall. I haven't seen it yet but I can't wait to. And my dad'll be made up. It'd be cool if you could get something like that. It'll hurt like hell looking at it for a good long while, but it'd be a great little reminder to have.

Trust me, I know how it feels.
The dog I had before Digby (my Golden Lab) was a Boarder Collie bitch called Belle (and yes, before you ask I named her after the Disney character) and I had her for seven years, she lost all feeling in her back legs as a result of a Heart Attack and we had to put her to sleep.

It really sucks how dogs have a much shorter lifespan than humans.

Here's a quote from Marley and Me that I found to be a good dedication to our four-legged friends, past and present. Spoiler tag in case you'd rather watch the movie yourself (bring a tissue box if you do). {Spoiler}A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if your rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?

Very sad at the end, but the unintentional hilarity of seeing so many shocked parents' faces when they brought their kids to the movie was priceless.
