I dunno about on-line games, but log into Yahoo! Chat one time. You'll understand all afterwards. Or the non-private AIM chats. They single handedly killed those. Seriously though, I find them annoying in MMORPGs. Although they seem to be replaced by Chinese sweatshops, at least in Runescape, where they'd flood the american servers and it was near impossible to do some stuff like chop trees or mine for valuable ores. The only benefit is some would stupidly flood the game with tons of stuff, which meant you could buy dirt cheap and server jump to unload it as a profit. They were annoying as well constantly saying "Go away" to anyone not in their sweatshop who was you know... just playing. I gave up on that game after they started flooding the Dutch servers which is where I took refuge a lot of the time. The Dutch players all spoke English and were incredibly nice at sharing and trading. There used to be a massive problem with bots or Chinese farmers in WoW, but that has curbed somewhat in favor of general annoying trolls. I have yet to decide which is less annoying. Weirdest example of a guy using bots I've seen was in one area this guy had five other toons on follow, all were the same class, all attacked at the same time, same sequence, it was clear he was using bots, but it was just so bizzare, like gnome combat river dancing.
