So what are the pop culture things that stick out this decade?
For example 60s- counter culture, peace movement, hippies 70s- Disco, bell bottoms, hard rock, 80s- Hair metal, acid wash jeans, pop music 90s- grunge, bell bottoms come back,
So what are the pop culture things people will remember about this decade?

I guess scene-style, and the concept of ordinary people becoming stars (reality television, YouTube).

Also, we can't forget the whole 'indie hipster' subculture, which extends from indie rock like The Decemberists, to Apple Computers, to movies starring Zooey Deschanel.

What is scene-style? I've heard of that but I have no clue what exactly it means.
Also youtube and reality shows are good ones I hadn't thought of. Another one I can think of is emo/goth becoming a parody within itself.

Another one I can think of is emo/goth becoming a parody within itself. Agreed. I would also say that fits into the whole 'scene style' somewhat...then again, seeing as I choose to stay away from the whole 'scene' fad, I probably don't know as much as I should about it. Another lesser thing that happened this decade was that metal made a minor comeback.

What is scene-style? I've heard of that but I have no clue what exactly it means. "Scene" is basically the look that is mis-labeled as "emo"

The ipod would be up there. I expect we'll see it on the front of this decades compilation albums in years to come, well if there's such a thing as albums then.

Another lesser thing that happened this decade was that metal made a minor comeback. Yeah I think really hard metal influenced from Metallica and bands like that will make a huge comeback in the next decade. There is this very young band all still in their teens called Crooked X who are a lot like Metallica. I'm not big into the "new metal" what ever it is called. I usually call it grunge metal because that is exactly what it is. It's usually bands that were all influenced by Disturbed.

It seems like a big decade for nerd culture...
Comic book movies coming out (at times 3 per year) and garnering a lot of box office success. And similarly, non-comic book things that still appeal to nerds (wizardry, JRR Tolkien, etc.) become mainstream.
A bunch of tv shows about internet memes (like Tosh.0 and VH1's Web Junk, and that The Soup spin-off with Chris Hardwicke). And didn't Rick Astley actually have something of a comeback (however ironically) thanks to the Rick-roll?
And this decade's been really good to Stephen Colbert, and he's a self-professed nerd (you can see the Capt. America shield up on his wall every night).
