Wow, I've seen 5 of those. Those 5 being Death Note, Gundam SEED, Metropolis, some of Miyazaki's flicks, and FLCL. I highly enjoyed all of those, but man, I'm out of the loop. I've seen most of them...and the kick is...not through a computer screen. I've seen most through a computer screen. HOWEVER, after my first year of REALLY following anime, I haven't watched any of it illegally.....manga, though, that's another topic, but in terms of anime, I've been watching DVDs on my laptop and I've been watching episodes hosted on Hulu and FUNimation's own website. It is free AND legal. More anime fans need to do that..... Piracy has caused the near death of the American anime industry, only Viz and FUNimation remain......

Why'd you give up? Shippuden is some good good stuff. It didn't interest me that much. Watched Shippuden as well, and stopped watching it for the same reason as Naruto.

That sounds pretty sucky, regarding the American anime industry. My knowledge on that is really small, in any case, so I'm not really sure. A large amount of anime I've watched is through the computer screen, legal and not legal, and more stuff in the TV. There's pretty much anime in the TV channels here every day.

Then again the American anime industry screwed itself over with the RIDICULOUS prices they put on their DVDs, the average is $35 or so for DVDs......and the amount of episodes on the DVD is never the same.

I'm kinda jazzed about Funimation putting a lot of it's newer titles on blu-ray. I don't mind paying out the nose for good stuff - whole sets, and the like - on blu-ray.

I would have placed Genshiken a few spots higher just based on the Yaoi episode and Sue in general. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Sue and Angela are EPIC! Especially in the manga. Sue for the quotes and Angela....well....just look at her.

The epic Engrish in those Genshiken episodes is also a huge selling point.

It's gone from the English dub, but he still launches out a "dattebayo" every few lines in the subbed version, and that's the word they used for "believe it". And if you totally skip the Sora arc, yes, it's pretty good stuff.

And if you totally skip the Sora arc, yes, it's pretty good stuff. That's cause in Japanese they have a few words that have no other job than to be a punctuation mark. Dattebayo is the Japanese word that equates to an exclamation mark, so basically whenever Naruto says dattebayo, he's just ending his sentence with "!". They just couldn't think of something to replace mouth movements whenever he said dattebayo.

I have only seen Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist, but then again I don't understand the Japanese language much. There are a few words that I get from watching animes online that I first have seen an English dub and later found later episodes with English subtitles.
Speaking of animes that I have only seen English subtitled episodes of, how does the new Full Metal Alchemist series fare in comparison to the first one? I know that this series is meant to follow the manga more closely (which the first series did not even try to do since it was produced at the same time as the manga and did not want to make the same mistake that the Drag-on Ball Z series did when they were co-produced with its manga).

How did Gurren Lagaan and the big bouncing ball of depression and bad tidings that is Gunslinger Girl make the list, but Gungrave and Haibane Renmei didn't? I don't get it. That said, I am glad that the awesome that is Cromartie High made it. Any show that features Freddie Mercury, a gorilla, and a gang that dresses up like Kiss (and The Great Muta) is okay by me.

And don't get me started on Haruhi being in front of Hayao Miazaki, that's like putting Ben 10 in front of Fantasia. I agree that it probably shouldn't be higher than Miyazaki's work, and I also know you seem to hate everything that has anything at all to do with otaku culture and anime fandom for some reason, but The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is an excellent series and deserves to be near the top of this list. I'd say something about the Ben 10 comparison, but then again, you do know more about both Japanese and Western animation than I do so I'll just go away before I embarrass myself with my ignorance and wrong opinions. That''s what happens when three years of your life is wasted studing Media and Animation Thank god for that Stop-motion project. Yes, I do have a gripe with the Otaku Culture, since I feel that they show no respect towards both Western and Eastern Animation. I grew up watching cartoons from the late 80s/early 90s, and also cartoons from the 1920s/1930s. So I grew up respecting the cartoons of the past. Also everytime I talk to a Otaku, they're always arrogant little gits. I'll give Credit to the Haruhi Show, it did one thing right, that most Animes haven't done alot of, is Personality of the characters. But sadly, those characters get put into situations, they should not be put into. I feel the Manga does these characters more justice, than the Anime. Also it's constant grab for attention puts it down abit as well.

I think I understand part of your dislike -- the focus on stuff like moe and fanservice and other stuff. I enjoy those, but it does get tiring several times; though I'm not sure if otaku have no respect for other animation, unless you're talking about those who act as if anime is superior compared to other animation stuff.
As for me, I grew up watching anime and Western animation, and have loved both as a kid. It took me a long time to call myself an otaku, since I didn't know what otaku was until I was way older. Something like that.

And don't get me started on Haruhi being in front of Hayao Miazaki, that's like putting Ben 10 in front of Fantasia. Those three shouldn't be grouped together. Ponyo On A Boat (language warning) > Spirited > Howl's > Haruhi > >>>>>>>>>> Ponyo I liked Ponyo, but it's not close to the other two. And Haruhi, whether or not you like it, was a game changer. It should have a high ranking.

I liked Haruhi, though I never really thought it was super awesome when I was watching it. In any case, the Day of Sagittarius is probably one of my favorite anime episodes ever.
