At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Cole said "Sheamus is looking slightly pale".

Cole is actually not that bad,he plays a great bafoon, just look at his win at the slammys he was such a good nerd,I give it to Cole for being able to passably do his job,but not everyone is Striker;I doubt half of the forum could be better than Cole.YES,Cole is grating on the nerves and honestly kinda dumb, but he does feed off of his partner,Lawler is sucks at the moment and part of it can be blamed on PG because Lawler can't get all nasty with his old-manness,and Cole can't be insulted as rudely as back in the day.THERE ARE WORSE,ADAMLE CAN ALWAYS RETURN TO REPLACE COLE!

Cole is excellent at his job, otherwise he wouldn't have it. Not really. Plenty of people have jobs but, suck at them. It's just being friends with/not pissing off the right people. Vince, who is notoriously rough on his announcers, has not only kept Cole in a prominent position on his programmes, but has in effect promoted him to the main show, and also began to feature him as some sort of character when segments permit. Telling a story to Vince is probably the most important part of his presentation, so if they have a guy tasked with doing it who is incapable, he wouldn't be in that job. Plus, he's been with the company for like 13 years now - you'd think if he was really that bad someone would have decided not to keep renewing his contract when push came to shove. Unless Michael Cole is now a master politician who has forged friendships backstage with some of the most influential decision makers and has used these to calculatingly keep his job even though he's really rubbish, and Vince, who works in direct contact with the guy on a weekly basis...apparently isn't able to notice it. This is just like the Sheamus/HHH thing in that people say it's a 'friendship' between Vince and Cole when in actual fact it's Cole doing his job as Vince wants him to do it, just as Sheamus has qualities that HHH needs to see. Tazz has commented on this before, responding to criticisms of Cole saying something like 'When you're boss tells you to make pancakes...you make pancakes' or something random like that. Cole has his job because Vince thinks he is good at it.

As long as Cole's working with a good heel commentator, he's fine. It's Lawler's recent lack of energy/effort that's the problem. Totally agreed. I think Cole is the type of guy that feeds off whoever he's with, and Lawler is giving him absolutely nothing to work with. I agree, when he was with Tazz or JBL, he seemed to be in top form. But now, it really shows.

You are doing enough to not get fired. He can do what Vince tells him to time and time again but, that doesn't mean it's good. That is what having an opinion is. Lawler was good at one time but, is the drizzling shits now and he has been there longer than Cole. Does that mean he is good too or am I too free thinking here?

In all fairness, I think Cole and Lawler share the blame equally since they seem to have forgotten how to call action to properly drive the point home. Case in point:
When Sheamus is beating down somebody after a match, this is a fair and natural reaction to it:
"COME ON, THE MATCH IS OVER! SHEAMUS IS OUT OF CONTROL AND NOBLE CAN'T DEFEND HIMSELF! WE NEED SOME HELP OUT HERE!"
this isn't:
"................it's not looking good for Jamie Noble......."

We can sit on here and debate all day what is 'good' or not in our opinions, but in terms of who's opinion we can use to judge whether someone is good or not at their job, it is that someone's boss. If Cole was bad in Vince's opinion, he wouldn't have a job. Unless we are saying Vince is wrong, and doesn't know what it takes to make a good commentator in his own company.

He's worlds better than Todd Grisham. How does that idiot keep his job? Did Scotty II Hotty pass the photos down to him?
Typical SmackDown commentary:
Matt Striker, "Blah blah blah, obsequious nickname, comment on technical ability, another completely obscure-yet-witty nickname, yadda yadda yadda, the strength of this hold cutting off the oxygen..."
Todd Grisham: "Yes, he needs to find a way out. And Natalya is Jim Neidhart's daughter."
