does anyone else feel like wwe took paul's self made gimmick ("the ripper" paul burchill" a relative badass, and very dangerous opponent) bitchified his name, jobbed him out, and are ready to clear him out in the annual post mania endeavors? i like burchill, and think he has the talent to warrant a solid push, as i'm sure many others feel as well. why has he never gotten a solid shot after being around this long? There are two possible theories: 1. The Ring General Theory: A "ring general" is someone who can get good matches out of people, but at the same time, they are denied pushes because their job is to make the other guy look good. Paul clearly operates like a ring general. 2. The "WWE hates anyone with actual talent" Theory: I actually believe this one more. I really find it odd, and frustrating, that they did all of that so they can humiliate him once more. If they set it up where he wears different masks and outfits only to be unmasked by the Hurricane over and over again, then he should move to TNA.

The Hurricane/Burchill was starting to really bore me before Paul was even fired from ECW, so him coming back as the Ripper was fun, but it just need to end quick, I didn't need to see another feud with the same people even under mask, it's the same people. Now if he keeps coming back with different masks I'll laugh, but it will be/get stale real quick. I'm all for this, but it has to end with him being the Pirate again. ^agreed! I'd mark so hard 4 the pirate gimmick

Follow me on this...
Burchill disappears for a week or two and a new masked wrestler appears BUT this one kicks Helms' ass. Burchill pops up and introduces his new protege (pick anyone you want from the FCW), give him a cool bad guy name and now there's something interesting to watch.
Except this is the WWE writers so this probably ended the storyline unless they have Burchill trying to return as a Diva.
Which they would do.

OK, let me get this straight...they went through all the effort and trouble to get Burchill back on TV, give him an interesting turn on what he went through with Hurricane as a masked villian to play off of...and he gets unmasked and sent packing IN ONE MATCH?! OK, I'm nominating this for an Induction. Ugh. It's actually a rip off of Florida's original Midnight Rider angle in the early 80s. This part of the angle was stolen from Championship Wrestling from Florida in the 1980s. After the Midnight Rider did his 90 days, and Dusty Rhodes came back after losing a match to Kevin Sullivan, Rhodes and Sullivan had a match where the loser leaves for a year. Sullivan lost. However, Sullivan quickly came back in a mask. And everyone was like, oh, Sullivan is doing the same thing. So what ends up happening is they have a match where if Sullivan's masked gimmick loses, he has to unmask. He lost, and Sullivan was banned for a year. It was done to try and get an extra house, and to make the fans happy, again. The original Midnight Rider angle sounded awesome, including the Midnight Rider beating Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Title, Kevin Sullivan trying to get him to unmask because he became champion, and lobbying the President of the NWA for him to unmask. The president said, he doesn't have to unmask in front of the fans, but has to unmask in front of him. So, because of that, The Midnight Rider had to relinquish the belt, or Dusty would have been banned for a year, instead of the original 90 days. Kevin Sullivan was an awesome booker. But then again, I guess that's why it drew well back then, it didn't come off as well nowdays. The best rip off of that angle was Mr. America, back in 2003, which I thought was done really well, and they should have did a title switch there too, with Vince McMahon coming out saying he has to unmask, but Linda McMahon following him saying, he doesn't have to unmask in front of the crowd, but as the CEO, I do need to see your face, which would have meant Hogan was gone, and then he would have to give back the belt. It's too bad Hogan marked out, and didn't like how he had to be under a mask (from what I heard, Honky Tonk Man said a younger wrestler told him that story, as Hogan was bitching about it).

That would have been better. That's Giles. Ripper had a more badassed Magic look to him. Then he went all Dumbledore on Willow when she OD'd on "Magic". We get it Joss, it's a metaphor for drugs. Not your best work my friend. I'm sorry, what were we talking about again? At least it was subtler than Beer Bad. Just.
