Anyone who's watched the buildup to a Royal Rumble knows the score. Pretty much every top guy that's not going to be in the title match is going to be in the Rumble. So why in the blue hell was everyone saying "I'm going to be in the Rumble" like it was some kind of DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNN! moment? It was really annoying, and it seems like they could have spent that time better.

I know right?
HHH comes to the ring
"I've got a huge announcement to make......I'm NOT going to be competing in this years Royal Rumble match, instead I'm going fishing for the weekend with my buddy Sheamus"
Cole: "Oh My!"

"Coming up, why we sold air time to the WWE and will we do it again? Up next."

Vince just saw Spartacus and wanted to reference it, continuing his track record of being on the cutting edge of pop culture.

Would've been better if Primo came out and said "I'm sadly not in the Rumble, but good luck to you gentlemen all the same."

I'm not in the Rumble, I'm too busy guarding my Hardcore Tile because of it's 24/7 rules.
(Interestingly enough, the Royal Rumble never had a Hardcore Title defense)

Having the Rumble and then # 10 or whatever was the Hardcore champion, then someone just pins him in the middle of the ring. Or better yet, someone gets eliminated over the top, they run back in, hit a finisher on the HC, get the 3-count pin and run off with the belt while the former champ has to debate chasing after it or "winning" the Rumble. Anyway...they have kindof done that before with at least the big stars. It pretty much is assumed, but then they drop a promo about winning it. That's been the case since the Attitude era. I can still remember The Rock talking about throwing everyone "one by one by damn one over the top rope".

Is it odd that I want the HC title to return just for that spot?

I dunno, but I can safely say that I, Ranma Saotome, will be in the Royal Rumble. And I'm going to win, because I'm the best!

I think its mostly just because no one is "officially" in, until its announced. Theres a pretty big roster, so obviously not everyone gets in.
I completely know what youre saying though, regarding the top tier guys. It's always pretty much assumed they'll all get in.
I almost wish there were no World/WWE/ECW title matches on the card. So ALL the top tier guys were going in the rumble to get a chance at a title shot. I think it would prove more interesting to have Orton, Seamus,Undertaker,Mysterio in there than say Carlito, Chavo , Finlay, Regal
OR that the guys in the title matches got to pull double duty.
Just because you have a title match at the Rumble event...or are a world champion...why would you not want 1)Another guaranteed title match (a chance at holding 2 world titles) 2)The main event at WM </kayfabe>

If I was the champion, I'd win the Rumble and pick myself, just so I can put on a 10 minute long technical extravaganza, followed by me whacking myself with a chair for the DQ.

I personally am not in the Rumble at the moment. But i have confidence that some smallish wrestler will be confidently throwing his ball into the air, giving me the perfect opportunity to snatch it from his grasps (Viper like! Oh My!). When he tries to take it back i will simply look into his eyes as if we were in prison and dare him to try and. He will surely back down and i to will be in the Rumble.

Dun Dun Dunnnn. They totally should have played that to make it more funny because it was pretty funny on it's own. Like we weren't suppose to know the top guys on RAW would be in the royal rumble. lol

Because if he wins... and Orton wins at the Rumble... it means more Triple H/Orton.

The interesting thing is that none of the Harts are announced to be in the Rumble or any matches
