I was watching the Rise and Fall of ECW and my roomate, who is just getting into wrestling, said "why are you watching this, the REAL ECW is on right now?"
It almost made me cry when he said that. I was watching one of the best DVD's of all time, talking about one of the greatest promotions of all time, and he just thinks that it's a "fake" ECW.
My only problem with watching these things with nonwrestling fans, or new wrestling fans who don't know the history, is that they think that ECW has always been a WWE thing, so they just think that it's still around, and can't understand that it was a different thing.
But I just wanted to share this with you guys, because it just blew me away that someone could think that, Big Show, Test, Knox, and Kelly Kelly, are what ECW is all about, and just looks at people like Al Snow, Taz, Raven, and the Dudleys and see's a bunch of guys who are in TNA or an announcer and is completely ignorant to what they've done.
Do you guys have any experience with this? Any good stories about stuff like this happening, and people making you want to just strangle them because they don't understand any of it, and still feel the need to comment on why Big Show is the man, and Ric Flair is the worst wrestler ever.

I felt like I was going to puke at SummerSlam during the Sabu match. All the little kids started chanting "EC-DUB" around me. I started a little bit and then I realized that this wasn't ECW and that nobody in the general area knew about ECW back in the day besides me. My wrestling heart died a little that night.

I've numbed myself to it a little bit , but it does bother the hell out of me that the younger generation of fans will consider this the "real" ECW, and not know anything about how awesome the original was compared to this new one.

As much as I hate WWECW and as much as it saddens me to see it, I would just laugh at these particular people you describe. Don't bother to try to explain it to them; anyone who'd put Show above Flair isn't worth the trouble.
And BTW, if you want a great companion piece to the Rise + Fall DVD (i.e. something with all the stuff about ECW that WWE conveniently left out), check out a documentary called Forever Hardcore.

Just another quick note, I put on Jerry Lynn vs RVD from the second disc of Rise and Fall, and he said he'd rather watch the RVD and Holly vs Heyman and Show. I tried to explain that RVD was better and Jerry Lynn is amazing, but nope, not having it.

Forever Hardcore was desperately lacking footage. I know WWE owns all the footage but that's what really made The Rise and Fall of ECW for me. Plus, it didn't really seem like that much of a different look.

I used to watch wrestling with the same type of people, can't do it anymore. It always breaks out into a fight, and I am in minority in trying to explain to them about what they are trying to say is wrong and how they suck.

I was, like, watching wrestling with this guy and he was all having different opinions than me, none of which were backed up by the internet. So I was like explaining that his brain was dumb then said "FACE, other guy!" but he was all still liking things I don't like and I was all WTF about that.

I was wearing an ECW shirt once and a bunch of little kids were chanting ECW. I thought it was cool that they actually watch the product. Plus I've noticed little kids love Sabu, so it's not all lost on the new generationg.

I don't think it annoys him that people have different opinions. It annoys him that people have uninformed opinions.

Similar experience, I was at an ECW taping like a a little over a month ago, and in the middle of the Test-RVD match, I see this kid probably no older than like 10 in a Cena jersey mind you chanting "EC-DUB" and part of me died a little on the inside seeing how I had actually been at an original ecw show before, but another side of me wanted to laugh my ass off.

Yeah I don't support watching a DVD when you could be watching a good show you haven't seen.

I really hope TNa takes off now and I hope more wrestlers jump ship especially the ECW originals.

Most hyperbolic title ever. At least I hope it was hyperbole.
And right now it is the 'real' ECW, the original promotion has been dead for over five years, and while it was good, crap did it become mythologized.
I'll turn in my smark card as needed.

I wish people wouldn't be so precious about "their ECW". If kids want to be fans and chant about the new ECW who are you stop em? Let them have their fun, you don't own ECW and people can like and chant about what they want.
