You know, when most folks think of 80's music it's either the hair metal or the synth-pop-rock. But you know, when other people where rocking out to that I was banging my head to Thrash, and it's what I'll remember most about that decades music. I know there must be a few other out there who still blast out some Exodus, Testament or Kreator , so have at it. Big 4 is also ok of course.

What metal head doesn't listen to that stuff til this day?
I'm partial to Overkill, I love to death any song that has vocals that are sung in a unique way. So Overkill makes me orgasm. I can never describe what I mean since it covers a huge singing range, but Birth of Tension would be an example. Where he sings very gravelly and then suddenly speeds up in a slightly clearer voice.
Aside from the big four, I like the ones you've mentioned. As well as Death Angel, Iced Earth(The first album was all Thrash imo)
Megadeth will always be the best in my book though.

Gotta throw Wehrmacht in the mix:
Jabberjaw
Napalm Shower
And when this band broke up, their spores grew up to become Cryptic Slaughter and Spazticc Blurr.
and the drummer went on to drum for Everclear.
but back on topic.

Before Rob Flynn founded Machine Head, he was the guitarist of Vio-Lence, a band that kicked ass in a way MH couldn't possibly hope to: Note how the vocalist Sean Killian sounds completely piss drunk whilst singing. It's one of those little things that made Vio-Lence thrash so hard. PS: First person to call Machine Head thrash will be in for a hell of a pinch

Overkill!
Annihilator
Being from Washington I'll always have a huge soft spot for Sanctuary. Fun Fact:Dave Mustaine produced this album.
Is this topic just for 80's Thrash, or in general?

Killer thread!
Thrash is one of my favorite metal sub-genres.

Ahh Thrash, how I love you. I'm probably the only Thrash fan to also love Hair Metal and synth-pop though.

Some Exodus guitarist joined some other band later on didn't he? They were...mildly successful...

Being from Washington I'll always have a huge soft spot for Sanctuary. I love the fact that they eventually formed into Nevermore which is practically the best thing going at the moment. Also... aww yeah.

Thrash... does Suicidal Tendencies count? Because I love them. I consider " How Will I Laugh Tomorrow..." a thrash album, so yes. A couple favorites of mine:

Also speaking of Kreator... Ever been kicked in the balls with violent force? Well, now you have. Don't worry, it feels pretty good.

Everyone talks about the big 4...but it should have been the big 5 with Pantera.
Most epic metal song ever, IMO.
I'm not a big Slayer fan, but my favorite songs by the other members of the Big 4:
(lol, never noticed it sounds like Peter Griffin laughing at the beginning)
