Who would you have put in the black scorpion gimmick? I read it was supposed to be either al perez or angel of death, but i doubt either was a big enough name to be a surpise. Personally, i would have tried to sign eddie gilbert and have him be the scorpion, as it was supposed to be someone from stings past, and gilbert certainly does qualify (they could have even brought up their UWF past).

It would have been impossible, but it should have been Warrior. Eddie Gilbert would've been a good one too, as he was Sting's mentor in UWF

I would have had the entire roster come out in cloak and hood, Agent Smith Style, and claim the Scorpion now lives in all of humanity.

I wouldn't have booked the stupid angle in the first place.

I think it would probably have been best to just debut some new guy, and either have him keep the Scorpion gimmick, mask and all, or have his character develop in a whole new creepy direction post-unmasking.

I wouldn't have booked the stupid angle in the first place. No, Jim Herd likes it, and you Ole Anderson, have invested money in a Voice box. You cannot go back at this point, so you might as well hire a illusionist.

Wasn't it supposed to be some indy wrestler Sting knew from the territory, but WCW decided that nobody would get it? Had they explained it, maybe it could have worked.

shouldve been barry windham.. they had him as the impostor sting which was dumb but he wouldve made a good scorpion since he was a great wrestler stuck as a mid carder for a while. now he finally wanted his shot in the spotlight and this was the best way to make an impression since the promoters wouldnt give him his shot.
windham was a great worker too, wouldve made for some good matches.
i think al perez was one of the fake scorpions.

This is what I'd have done, why does it have to be someone who was actually from his past? To please the dirtsheet readers who, before the internet, were an even smaller percentage of the audience? If you get the Warrior, fine, then it would have worked, but if not pick out someone new. How would the wrestling world be different if it was a repackaged Mark Calloway? He's in a hood so people don't see it's a new guy, if you want to unmask him later, give him a bit of a makeover so noone recognises him. Yes he left at the time, but if you gave him a main event run with Sting, he'd have signed a new contract.

It should have been someone from his past because that was the gimmick. So it should have been a legit person from past (Gilbert by far being best most realistic choice) or a previous unknown (ala Kane (not withstanding "smarks" knew who he was), Big Al 2 (not 911 but the guy Tank Abbott threatened to kill), Nailz, Cobra (Craig Pittman's enemy), Vladimir Pietrov).

Yeah that's the gimmick, but that doesn't mean it has to actually be someone from his real past. You mention Nailz, his gimmick coming in was he was from the Big Bossman's past, was he? Hell no, just say that he was and that's all the audience needs. Writing your storylines around real history can be ok, but when it gets in the way, dump it.

I wouldn't have booked the stupid angle in the first place. Easy to sit here in hindsight and say you wouldn't have done it, but if you look at TV ratings for the angle, you can easily see it had the audience's attention. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clash_of_the_ChampionsIt didn't become a bad angle until the stupid payoff.
