#11: StarTropicsStarTropics tells the story of Mike Jones, who goes to visit his uncle on C Island. But when he heads there, he learns that his uncle has gone missing. Equipped with only his yo-yo, Mike must traverse from island to island, battling monsters in the underground caves, to find his uncle. The game play is a mix of top down rpg/Zelda action game. on the surface, you'll need to talk to people, find health upgrades, and solve puzzles. Underground, you'll have to fight monsters, solve puzzles, and find your way out of the mazes. The game has yet anotehr fantastic NES soundtrack, with the best music coming from the underground levels. This game only got a North American release, and it's a shame too, as this is definitely a game that the rest of the world missed out on. Star Tropics is an instant classic, that should be given a play by any fan of games like Zelda.

#10: Super Mario BrosIt's highly likely that every gamer has played Super Mario Bros at least once in their life, as prior to the success of Wii Sports, Super Mario Bros was the best selling video game of all time, with 40 million copies sold. The plot of the game is simple. Mario must traverse through 8 worlds to save Princess Toadstool from Bowser. The platforming classic has one of the most memorable soundtracks in history, tight gameplay, and plenty of secrets. From hidden warps, to hidden worlds. And of course the legendary 1-Up trick. Super Mario Bros is a classic, and one of the best video games ever.

#9: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade GameWhile not as visually or technically solid as it's arcade counterpart, TMNT II on the NES is still a solid port. You can still play as all 4 turtles, as you beat down hundreds of Foot Soldiers through several levels. New to the game that the original didn't have is 2 new levels. Snow covered Central Park, and the Dojo. these levels contain 2 new enemies, Tora the polar bear, and Shogun, a samurai robot with a floating head. The music is excellent, and the challenge high enough that it may be tough for those not used to beat em ups. it's a definite example of "less is more", and a great game for anyone's NES Library.

#8 Contra Contra is perhaps the greatest run and gunner on the NES. In the game you play as Bill and Lance, who traverse through several levels, and hundreds of enemies, to defeat the alien threat. The gameplay is fast and fluid, and gives you plenty of weapons to use. From the machine gun, to the ultimate weapon, the spreader. You start the game with 3 lives, and 3 continues, making completing the game rather difficult. But If you need the help, there's always the legendary Konami code that gives you 30 lives. Contra is a must play for fans of run and gun style video games.

#7: Mike Tyson's Punch OutMike Tyson's punch out is an arcade style boxing game. In it, you play as underdog Little Mac, as he works his way up from the minor circuit to take on 'Kid Dynamite' himself, Mike Tyson. The game is all about strategy, knowing the attack patterns of your opponents, and finding their exploitable spots. And the roster is huge, with plenty of big time baddies to take on like King Hippo, Bald Bull, Soda Popinski, and Super Macho Man. When you've defeated them all, Tyson awaits, and is far from a cakewalk. But with patience, and practice, it is possible. The game was rereleased without Tyson in 1990 as Punch Out, and replaced Tyson with Mr. Dream.

#6: Kirby's AdventureOne of the last major NES titles, Kirby's Adventure is one of the best looking games on the system. The graphics, music, and gameplay are all solid, and the game has enough secrets, and hiddent areas to keep you coming back to complete the game. You play as Kirby, who has to find the star rod that King Dedede has stolen, in order to save Dreamland. To aid you in battle, you can inhale your enemies, and swallow them to take their powers. You have tons of powers to use, including fireball, Ice, Hammer, and UFO. There are also 3 minigames which will give you extra lives. Crane Game, which is what it sounds like, Quick Draw, which is about how fast your timing is, and finally egg catch, which requires to to catch eggs, and avoid bombs. Kirby's Adventure is among the best on the console, and worth a try for Kirby fans, and platforming fans alike.
