I know that Wrestlecrap.com tends to romanticize ECW, but this was the single most pointless celebrity cameo in wrestling history. Lowlights included: BILLY CORGAN trying to "sing" the national anthem (was this some sort of attempt to outdo Rosanne for worst ever choice of celeb to sing this song?) and guitar assisted beatdowns.
But the wrestlecrappiest part of it all was that the "feud" was resurrected SEVEN YEARS LATER at a Smashing Pumpkins concert by Lou E. Dangerously himself in full character in front of a live audience. THIS FEUD LASTER LONGER THAN ECW ITSELF! If that's not wrestlecrap then nothing is.
And seriously, this is a perfect example of the kind of nonsense that was going on in ECW around 2000-2001 that ultimately lead to the promotion's demise. That whole period of ECW was a hotbed of wrestlecrap and it would be cool to see it examined more on the site.
What does everybody else think? Agree, disagree?
EDIT: No, I couldn't find any video of this.

I still remember this. I mean, it's one thing to have a celeb attend an event and take part in a segment, but this was just plain stupid. Even I thought it was stupid when I watched ECW on TNN back in the day and noticed Billy Corgan there.

People are starting to wise up and start to see that ECW over time wasn't that great... I'm just saying IT'S TRUE!!! The only people that truely love it are the people that didn't live through it until TNN............ Excuse me... The Network

I can imagine RD saying, "But even Wrestlecrap has standards! We won't induct anything ECW-related. That is, the original ECW. [sarcasm]This promotion can do no wrong![/sarcasm]"

And to make it even wrestlecrappier Corgan put out a press release where he put over ECW and cut a promo on Dangerously where he called him "Lou E. Imitation".

It's not inducted because it's awesome. They played 'The Everlasting Gaze' when Corgan smashes the guitar over Lou E's head, it's awesome just for that.

ECW was never infallible...but moments like these were few and far between during it's early years up to when it got the TNN show...then it was every once in a while.

Actually a question on ECW. Has the Mass Transit incident ever been inducted?

Actually a question on ECW. Has the Mass Transit incident ever been inducted? I'm not sure if that is actual Wrestlecrap. That was just pure stupidity on a lot of people's parts. Yeah, I know, Wrestlecrap celebrates the stupid, but it seems to be a goofy, innocent stupidity that gets recognized, not a "holy crap, that kid could've died in the ring" braindead-ness.

As a longtime fan of ECW...I really, really, really wish some people on this board would stop talking for me sometimes.
But yeah, this wasn't the best moment for them. it was kinda their David Arquette, without a title changing hands. But hey, it got them publicity, so...

Personally, I loved when b0lly Corgan was on ECW. As a huge SP fan and a huge ECW fan I thought it was awesome. Besides, nothing wrong with having a very huge rock star (Billy Corgan was very popular then) appear on an indy show to give it a little rub. Don't see what was so bad with it. People are starting to wise up and start to see that ECW over time wasn't that great... I'm just saying IT'S TRUE!!! The only people that truely love it are the people that didn't live through it until TNN............ Excuse me... The Network And I will like to say that you are dead wrong. First, plenty of people enjoy ECW no matter if they became fans in 1995, 1999 or post-death. And using one angle to prove a company wasn't great is silly. If ECW wasn't such a good company then there is no way it would still be a part of the wrestling landscape a decade after it died. WCW was a multi-million dollar company with on of the hottest angles in wrestling history (nWo). Yet, you rarely ever hear about WCW anymore. However, ECW is still brought up quite frequently. There is a reason for that. No matter if you liked the company or not, you can't deny that ECW was one of the most amazing promotions out there, simply due to the fact that it was a small indy company that was able to leave a sizable dent in wrestling history.

But this site was set up to point out the worst of wrestling. How is it that ECW putting some kid's life on the line isn't among its worst parts but something like Eddiesploitation is if we're limiting it to 'goofy and innocent' or Katie Vick for that matter. And Arquette didn't do anything for WCW? What about the guest hosts? They get publicity for the WWE but how many calls have we had for them to be given a induction?

Because ECW, nor any of the participants knew that the guy wasn't trained. Had he been trained and received guidance I do believe the entire incident wouldn't have happened. Kid and his father lied. IMHO, it was his fathers fault and in no way should be a mark against ECW. Look at it this way, if an untrained wrestler would have tried the things Nick Mondo did, they'd be dead. Hell, it almost killed Mondo and he was trained and had experience in hardcore matches.

Aren't wrestling companies like ECW required to do at least a rudimentary background check at first? I know if I was about to put someone in a wrestling ring, a brief rehearsal before hand and more than the word of two complete strangers would be prudent measures to take.

I remember going to a Smashing Pumpkins site and the people there were trying to figure out why the hell Billy would do such a thing. Of course, those who watched wrestling knew Billy had popped up in the audience at a WWE PPV a couple months prior (if I remember correctly). It kinda surprised me as someone whose "artsy" as Billy is into wrestling, but you live and learn. I loved the pumpkins so seeing Billy was awesome.
The thing about Billy getting hit with a guitar is I remember how akwardly he fell. He kinda killed over himself. Maybe one of the worst guitar shots I've seen.

I've noticed not a lot of ECW stuff has been inducted, is there an offical reason?

I've noticed not a lot of ECW stuff has been inducted, is there an offical reason? I generally get the impression that those running the site are really big ECW marks more than anything. Especially the RTB bit where Heyman becomes some sort of all knowing, all skilled businessman.

Dude, it wasn't that bad and it was at least a recognizable figure that at least a good portion of at the time ECW fans would have also been a fan of. It's memorable. And I never had a problem with it, I didn't know it was resurrected, hah. That's kinda funny.

I've noticed not a lot of ECW stuff has been inducted, is there an offical reason? From Wrestlecrap's FAQ: Q: Where's all the ECW stuff? A: ECW, in my opinion, never really had much crap. They did stupid angles, but they were stupid angles to get people like Stevie Richards' Clueless Putz character over. If I dig some ECW WrestleCrap up, I'll post it, but I've yet to see anything that I just can't live without inducting.
This is where RD and Blade's "Even Wrestlecrap Has Standards" comes in, and think that ECW can do no wrong. However, both ECW video games (or at least one of them) were inducted into Wrestlecrap. I've already discussed it in another thread, but I think that Raven crucifying Sandman might be Wrestlecrap-worthy, but if that's inducted, they might as well induct Undertaker's crucifications, if that's not inducted already.
