No one has ever made me laugh as much as Mitch Hedberg, and no one has ever made me cringe as much as Dane Cook.

Bill Hicks. Always, always Bill Hicks.
He is my Christ. I have a picture of him hanging on my wall. He had a profound, changing influence on my life and I honestly think he made me a better person in some ways.
He's also friggin' hilarious.

Favorite has to be Doug Stanhope, (2 pages in and didn't see a mention of him?) Dave Attell and Joe Rogan are both great. Hicks, Mitch and Carlin of course. Do Penn and Teller count?
Didn't care for Mencia, only standup DVD I bought that didn't impress me. Oh yea, and Leno.

Favourites: Many, although Peter Kay, Bill Bailey and Eddie Murphy rank as all-time greats for me.
Worst: Russell Howard, Russell Howard... and er.... Russell Howard...

My favourite right now is Stewart Lee.
My least favourite is Joe Pasquale, who is insufferable.

George Carlin, first and foremost. When I ventured into stand up a while back, it was due almost solely to the impact he had on me......That said, I also really enjoy:
Richard Pryor Lewis Black Mitch Hedberg Doug Stanhope Eddie Murphy Ron White Dave Chappelle David Cross Jeff Foxworthy (an underrated comedian who was unfortunately saddled for life with "You might be a redneck...") Gallagher (also an underrated comedian tied to a gimmick he's too good for) Zach Galifianakis Eddie Izzard Richard Jeni Andy Kaufman Sam Kinison Steve Martin Brian Posehn Bob Saget and lately, I have been quite impressed by what I've seen from Dov Davidoff.
Least favorite: Dane Cook and Gabriel Iglesias....They are the 2 most insufferable, not funny, and outright annoying comedians in history, bar none. Especially Iglesias. I honestly hope I get the chance to tell him how much he sucks one day. It will make me feel better.
Carlos Mencia, Frank Caliendo, Jeff Dunham, Larry the Cable Guy, Sarah Silverman, Daniel Tosh, and Lisa Lampanelli get an honorable mention here, as well. And I know I am tipping the sacred cow here, but I just don't see Bill Hicks as anything but a second-rate Carlin. Sue me.
And if I may introduce my own catergory, I would nominate Patton Oswalt as the leading candidate for the title of "Funny, but hugely overrated".

Favorites: Maria Bamford Ron White Patton Oswalt and the Blue Collar Guys. Least favorite: Dane Cook... and a bunch of other people. Jeff Foxworthy (an underrated comedian who was unfortunately saddled for life with "You might be a redneck...") Unfortunately? If it wasn't for that, he'd still be an unknown.

Jeff Foxworthy (an underrated comedian who was unfortunately saddled for life with "You might be a redneck...") Unfortunately? If it wasn't for that, he'd still be an unknown. I just meant that he is known only for that bit to most people, despite being a very funny man beyond that bit. It's also caught the stigma of being lame and outdated, which reflects poorly on his status as a comedian.

No one has ever made me laugh as much as Mitch Hedberg, and no one has ever made me cringe as much as Dane Cook. Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth lol. I came in here to post almost the same thing. Nice. Some other ones I like a lot are Bill Burr, Demetri Martin, And any of the Stella guys (I like Michael Ian Black the most though).

Least favorite: Any of the left-wingers (John Steward, Bill Maher, Janeane Garofalo, Al Franken, etc) I agree with this as well. I forgot to mention some of the other ones I can't stand. I dislike Larry the Cable Guy, Lisa Lambinili (however you spell it), Patton Oswalt, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Bo Burhnum, Lewis Black, Doug Benson, Stephen Lynch, Frank Caliendo, Wanda Sykes, and Daniel Tosh. There's more i'm sure but I can't think of any at the moment. But I sure cannot stand any of the ones i've listed above. To add to the ones I really like (I remembered some more lol): Zack Galifinakis, Jo Koy, Jon Lajoie, Louis C.K, Jim Gaffigan, Harland Williams, Ralphie May. I'm sure there's more but I really enjoy these guys.

And I know I am tipping the sacred cow here, but I just don't see Bill Hicks as anything but a second-rate Carlin. Sue me. Early Hicks largely plays off of Carlin's stuff. But a lot of his later stuff is way more raw and off-the-cuff than Carlin's stuff.

But a lot of his later stuff is way more raw and off-the-cuff than Carlin's stuff. I think I just always kinda saw him as trying to be a more shocking version of Carlin, and it always just fell incredibly flat to me. Plus he had a habit of fake- laughing at his own jokes, which drove me nuts (Jackie Martling does this same kinda thing).

Hicks is also my Jesus, listening to the philosohpy bits he does is mind expanding.
As for my other favourites: Bill Bailey(no mention yet? I can't believe it) Mitch Hedberg John Bishop Ed Byrne Dara O'Brian 'The left wing guys' Chris Rock, Jon Stewert etc. Russell Howard Reginald D Hunter STEPHEN K AMOS! the closest there is to an English Chris Rock.
Guys I don't, well, Jim Gaffigan I have an issue with, I love his material, but when he played London just now, he charged so much, he's not known in England, but he was charging twice as much as guys that are on tv at least once every week.
Jimmy Carr
He CAN be funny, but I've seen him live twice, and both times, the audience outsmarted him, one time he literally told us to laugh at his joke after he got no reaction.
