This guy will be the future of TNA if his shoulder doesn't bother him anymore. And I don't know what everybody is saying? he debuted as a heel, fought a face and beat him as a heel. I thought the "You missed me? Well I missed myself!" comment gave it away. And then he started drowning the "OVER-RATED" chants and practically mocked the internet by overselling his wrist at the end. The guy is gold and can only get better. The name didn't flop at all, it's great that they're treating this guy as a huge deal. When WWE doesn't do it, you complain, when TNA does do it, it's overhyped. Seems that you can never win . I dunno. I just think he's terrible. It's nothing about WWE vs. TNA, hard to please fans, issues of overrated vs. underrated stature for me. I think, quite frankly, that he's mediocre in the ring, one-dimensional on the mic, and seriously lacking in quality, memorable matches and moments despite being around for several years now. He might turn into a huge deal. He isn't one now and, considering other possible "shocking" signings, Anderson's joining TNA is predictable and unpromising. Again, this is my opinion. Others see it differently. Who knows? If he does something interesting, more power to him.

Seemed good to me. Looked to be the in ring debut of the night that got the best reaction, and put on a better match than Morley or Waltman.

I love how this forum most people were creaming themselves over this guy three years ago and then all of a sudden ever since being a little injury prone(cough*Batista*cough) and the whole lying about steroids thing everyone turns against him just like that.
I honestly think he will do fine in TNA and make people eat their words about him. He was well on his way to the main event back in WWE before the crap hit the fan with the steroid thing and getting injured all the time.
I don't blame Abyss for the bad match but I do blame TNA management for booking Abyss against him. Abyss should not be used in a role like that even if his gimmick has been watered down.

How about "never became anything more than an annoying catchphrase and an entrance gimmick"? Or "Average wrestler who injured one person and nearly did another with his sloppy work"? he was a loudmouthed idiot who couldn't back up his potential or his weak, one-dimensional gimmick. That's why people turned on him. It's called "what have you done for me lately?". And in Ken Anderson's case, the answer is "purposefully piss it all away". Jed Shaffer ~Not to mention ... yay, TNA's hired more WWE castoffs! Who needs homegrown talent like AJ Whatshisname and Samoa That One Guy?

So whos' the odds on favorite for who he tries to score drugs from first? I think Hall and Waltman are too easy, so I'm gonna guess he approaches Angle first.
I'm sorry, but they want mainstream exposure, that seems to be what Hogan and Bischoff are all about, so they hire the one guy that you absolutely do not want in front of a live mic on any mainstream programming ever.
Anderson, for all the potential that he once showed, is a walking liability. He's been injury prone more or less nonstop for the past three years, stuck his foot in his mouth on cable news regarding performance enhancing drugs, and yet TNA still persued him.
All for the sake ofa buck, I suppose, but sometimes the bad can outweigh the good.
I know TNA is not, nor will it be, under teh same microscope in terms of drug testing that WWE was and is, but doesn't their recent string of hiring seem dangerous to anyone at all?
Kennedy was called out publicly for lying about drug use, then gets fired amidst stories that he was trying to score pills from members of the roster and setting them up to get canned (the whole Holly situation).
Jeff Hardy is under f***ing endictment for drug trafficking, but makes an apperance on the live show, with a contract presumably in waiting if he beats this charge. So, best cae you've got a multiple time violater of WWE's wellness policy as a big name, and worst case you willingly associate yourself with a guy who was either selling or stockpilling drugs.
Waltman and Hall pretty much speak for themselves, except their drug and alcohol use has already burned TNA on at least three occasions. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice and we'll give you a new contract, I suppose.
Kendrick may just enjoy smokikng the herb, and that's certainly nothing new in the industy, but damn it, throw him on the pile too because it goes to M.O. The stigma has been for years, "they just want to sign anyone aht's worked for the E". Thing is, now it's becoming "they just want to sign anyone that's worked for the E and been popped at least once for a wellness violation".

What I don't get is...
Why did they put Mr. Ken Anderson out there to wrestle a match his first night in? His talent is that he's a very, very good talker, not because he's a good worker.
I'm thinking of Christian's debut. He was far better in-ring than Mr. Anderson, and the way they debuted Christian on PPV is the same way they should've debuted Anderson. Show up, get a pop, cut a promo about how great it is to be in TNA and what we should look forward to, call somebody out. Anything other than wrestle.
They could've built Kennedy up by having him call people out for weeks before wrestling. But now, after the way Kennedy looked in his match against Abyss, I don't want to see him in TNA anymore.

I'll say it, I think he has some good potential. He fizzled out due to injuries to himself and others, not to mention a big case of foot-in-mouth syndrome, but I think he has all the tools to be great. I love how this forum most people were creaming themselves over this guy three years ago and then all of a sudden ever since being a little injury prone(cough*Batista*cough) and the whole lying about steroids thing everyone turns against him just like that. It's not like opinion changed on him in one night. Barely being there for a year due to injuries, injuring main event talent, and running your mouth before getting caught in a major lie are more than justifiable reasons to be wary of the guy. It's not like he was putting on five-star matches then everyone suddenly hated him, he was up and coming, then began to crash in a Michael Bay style explosion. I think, with a lighter schedule and lack of wellness policy he could turn it around, but I'm hardly going to criticize anyone for thinking it's a bad hire in light of everything that got him cast off of WWE.

Yes, they are ignoring talent like AJ Styles, the guy they gave THE FREAKING WORLD TITLE TO!!!!!!God, if TNA had 1 hour and 59 minutes of the 2 hours of iMPACT devoted only to AJ, and the last minute to Hogan, there's be people going "How can Hogan hog the spotlight and steal time from AJ Styles?" And can we now drop the whole "WWE Rejects", especially when guys like Pope, Morgan, and others fit that mold to a T, yet people don't give a damn and mark for them anyway?!

And can we now drop the whole "WWE Rejects", especially when guys like Pope, Morgan, and others fit that mold to a T, yet people don't give a damn and mark for them anyway?! Huge difference, though. MOrgan was saddled with a stupid gimmick, everyone knew it and said "there's something there, he could be huge". Burke just oozed charisma, but got squat, and people said, "that's a freakin crime, he deserves better". They brought in Kennedy, who is a risk for injury and bad publicity, Hardy who is facing felony drug charges (one time deal, but the stigma is still there), Kendrick (tons of talent, but an unapologetic fan of the herb, which is still a crime in this country), and give two of the three matches and pay days on the first PPV of the "Hogan era" (his face ploastered everywhere, long promo to open the show). Hardy could beat the charges, and they'll use him and he'll be over. Fine, except what are you left with? A guy who, despite all the talent in the world, has zero self control, none whatsoever. He IS going to get busted for drugs again, it is not a matter of if. Yet, they persued him knowing that there are those in Congress who are looking at the industry as a whole. Kennedy lied about his drug use, got caught, suspended, and has been frequently injury prone ever since (a sign of drug use in all sports). Now he is going to a place where there is little to no testing. Say what you awnt, but the chances of him using again just went up. Throw all of this into the locker room environment, or any workplace structure and see how it affects morale. A group that's worked together, formed a cohesive unit focused on a common goal. Throw in some guys who used to work for larger companies who come in and change everything about the company, bring in their people from the outside and then brag about it. Now add on a bunch of guys who ere with the larger company but were either fired or quit, many of whom have histories with drugs. "Reassure" the long time employees of their importance by having the new guys show them up at every turn. This will murder morale, plain and simple. The job that you used to have passion for, even if you never wanted to be president of the company and just wanted to be "part of the team" now becomes a paycheck that you grumble about every day. Every sacrifice you've made repeatedly gets downplayed because the new guys need to feel important.

Any pickup a wrestling company makes has to be looked at as an investment. Some guys fit the bill of a short-term investment; they maybe come in for a brief time, get people to go "Woah, so-and-so's in <insert company here>?!", get them to watch, and then that wrestler fades out in relatively short order. I get that vibe from Scott Hall. Then there are guys who can be looked at as long term investments, who may not do anything in the short term, and may even have baggage attached, but you feel, down the road, they can provide a major lift for you. I think it's clear that Burke and Morgan were two of these "high upside" guys, much as Steve Austin was when WWF picked him up after WCW had discarded him. The question is, does that same principle apply to Hardy, Kendrick, and Anderson? In the case of Kendrick, I think it does. I honestly couldn't care less if the guy smokes pot (spoiler: HE DOES ), and he really is a very high level talent that can go and perform in any number of roles. With Hardy and Anderson, you're taking a gamble on two guys with pasts that could be considered warning signs (including an immediate warning sign with Hardy's legal issue right now), but I think it's fair to argue their upsides, as well. I said this in regards to Lashley, as well; these are relatively younger guys (though Hardy's now getting a little older) with upsides that, if used correctly, can become more known as "TNA guys" than "WWE guys". It's not like they're schlubs who bring nothing to the table in their roles (cough:BubbaTheLoveSponge:cough), so I can't really fault TNA for taking fliers on them. That said, if Anderson continues some of the "foot-in-mouth" tendencies of his past, I can see criticizing the signing with an "I told you so!".

Yes, they are ignoring talent like AJ Styles, the guy they gave THE FREAKING WORLD TITLE TO!!!!!!And just turned heel with ... wait for it ... the help of a retired WWE wrestler. Oh, and who beat homegrown Christopher Daniels? Val Venis. And where were the Machine Guns? Chillin' their heels, while The Band sucked up time (and just sucked) with Beer Money. Samoa Joe? Nope. We got KENDRICK!!! Desmond Wolfe went from feuding with a main event WWE castoff to ... feuding with a midcard WWE castoff. The point is, TNA already has a stacked roster. Lots of homegrown, original talent. Rather than turn them into stars, they keep relying on castoffs as the draw, and their homegrown stars to fill in the spaces. When TNA stops hiring 2 out of 3 people fired by WWE, sure. Until then, no. Jed Shaffer ~There was another company that did this ... took other people's castoffs ... built the promotion around them ... subjugated the guys who the promotion should've been built around to the midcard ... anybody kno W where this Company Went?

Jed, you're kind of going off the deep end here with the hate.
I fully agree that the booking surrounding Daniels vs. Morley was a mess, but it's an Olympic style leap to draw some of these conclusions.

I understand that you're trying to establish a pattern, but I think the signings and debuts that you're lumping together should all be treated as isolated incidents. Just because they all worked for WWE at one time, it's not like there are so many other major promotions they could've worked for or that being signed by WWE shows a lack of talent. It's like if any business makes some new hires, some of them will work out and some of them might not but they're each individuals that succeed or fail on their own merits. Take Kendrick for example. A lot of wrestling fans know who Kendrick is outside of WWE, the kind of smarky fans that would be in the Impact Zone and I didn't see the show but I would assume he got a decent reaction. Kennedy is the same way to an extent, I'm sure some of those fans must've seen him as Ken Anderson before he was in WWE. And to the casual observer, he was booked strongly in WWE and didn't get buried on the way out or anything. Morley going over Daniels? That's terrible, I don't really know what to say about that. Unless they're planning to build Morley as a face challenger to AJ's title, but somehow I doubt that. The point is, it's a different case than Kendrick or Kennedy, because at best some older fans might now that Morley was an Intercontinental champion years ago, but most know him as a WWE jobber.

Just imagine if the 1919 New York Yankees were run by wrestling smarks.
Yankee Scout: We should do everything we can to get this Babe Ruth guy from the Red Sox. I hear they aren't that happy with him. He is a little out of shape, but I think he even has more potential as a hitter than a pitcher.
Yankee General Manager: The fat guy from the Red Sox?! We can't have Red Sox castoffs on the Yankees. Let's stay with our homegrown players. They are "true" Yankees!
If Pope, who barely did anything in WWE, is a midcard WWE castoff then....
Samoa Joe = ROH castoff Desmond Wolfe = ROH castoff MCMGs = ROH castoffs CM Punk = ROH castoff Bryan Danielson = ROH castoff
And what would you call poor Christian? A WWE/TNA hybrid castoff? Why don't we stop putting labels on wrestlers?
I also get a kick out of someone calling Daniels TNA "homegrown". I guess he never was in WCW and ROH and just magically hatched in TNA .
I also love how Ric Flair is now branded a WWE wrestler. The guy has been around for 1,000 years and wrestled everywhere. Most older fans still identify him with southern wrestling, which for better or worse, is the legacy TNA inherited from WCW.
And it's sort of hard not to hire ex-wrestlers from WWE since they basically have controlled the business for the last 12 years. Just consider how many wrestlers they had on their roster the past 20 years.

Great post deeks, and for what else, by trying to build up their roster with the most well known available talent and involving celebrities (that's basically what Hulk is now), they are doing exactly what Vince McMahon did to gear up for his big TV push, and the same thing that Eric Bischoff did in WCW, but we're being told they shouldn't do those things because "WCW failed".
