Again, *sigh* Gender stereotypes really, really suck. Its not a stereotype its a societal, and cultural norm. In our society Women are expected to shave while men aren't. The different genders shaving or choosing not to is all about individuals meeting their societies expectations. A stereotype on the other hand is a preconceived concept that is held as a personal belief by certain individuals. Saying that all Mexican people in the USA are illegal immigrants is a stereotype. One interesting thing about stereotypes though is that they can be true, and still be seen as a stereotype. One popular example would be saying something like "On average men are much stronger then women" that statement might be seen as a gender stereotype despite the fact that it is backed up by medical science.

I know quite a few guys that don't shave their legs but yet they look like they do. I have shaved my legs in the past for different reasons but it's never been for the look. But if I guy wants to shave his legs, that's fine by me it doesn't look weird or anything.

But as Frank said it's more of a gender accepted thing, guys have hairy legs and women don't. I don't assume a guy with no hair on his legs is gay, it's just different is all. EDIT - Also I'm not saying that gays or shaving your legs is wrong AT ALL.

In the context above "Only gay men shave their legs" would work as a stereotype.

I'm one of those people who doesn't have much hair on his legs. And yes, I have shaved said legs on several occasions. It already looks like I do it. Why not finish the job? Besides, it's not like anyone can see them. (I don't wear shorts. Ever.)
