Initially I read it more like, "He was great in his time and still knows how to put on a show, but he's breaking down and everyone knows it. He'd have retired if it weren't for Hunter, and good matches or no, fans aren't as willing to watch physically old bodies like they used to." It's an overly optimistic reading of Roma's intention (albeit he's still clearly wrong about everything except Shawn's body breaking down and starting to look really old). But yeah, it could also be a volley back over Hunter's "he was a horseman?" jab...except no one will see this one.

All I know is that I can always watch an HBK match and enjoy it no matter who the opponent is, can't say the same for Roma matches. I liked the power & glory vs rockers feud

Backstage politics aside, HBK will be remembered as one of the greatest of all time. Paul Roma is stocking shelves at a Target somewhere.

Paul Roma couldn't bury Shawn Michaels if he had a backhoe loader and six tons of fresh earth.
The only Paul Roma match I enjoyed or even remember is when he just decided to up and be a dick to Alex Wright on pay-per-view at Superbrawl. It was epic douchery, and I bet the company brass couldn't wait to give him his walking papers once he stepped back through the curtain for making Das Wunderkind look like Aldo Montoya.

I don't give a hoot what Paul Roma thinks. He never made it anywhere (and the Horsemen do NOT count in his case) and thus, it's easy for him to play the bitter card.
I wouldn't mind hearing from a Target manager but certainly not some dude that flips burgers for a living. I don't know what Roma does but I'm sure that he tells people "Yes, I was once a Horseman" often. ;D

Paul Roma is one of the most underratted wrestlers ever, he makes a good point, and as long as what he is doing right now makes him happy, I give him a lot of credit

I think that may make more sence if it was the other way round.

In his latest interview with Clubwii, Paul Roma is asked about Shawn Michaels and here is his response: “Shawn Michaels is a good showman, but again, you know, he’s getting into that time of Flair. If he wasn’t buddy/buddy with Triple H, he wouldn’t be around. Let’s face it. Come on. Do you think someone wants to see a 160 pound guy that looks like Michael Jackson wrestle? Come on, man. The guy’s not healthy.” So what do you all think of Roma's latest comments? Well he odvisely a jealous that even today HBK still a better wrestler then he ever way. Yeah buddy buddy with HHH is why the he there. It's not because before HHH even was anybody he was a huge star. It's not because he had that Million dollar contract with the WWE. How does he even look anything like Michael Jackson EVER. Lets see MJ had Black Hair. HBK had Blondish Brown. MJ was pasty white in skin tone and before that well normal black person skin tone. HBK had always average tan. But was way darker when MJ was bleach white. MJ had a lot of surgery on his face. HBK did not and they look nothing a like. MJ hardly had a nose. His lips where very un natural really. Yeah they again in the face look nothing a like. MJ was in the 130s most of the time and not much muscle mass. HBK did have muscle mas and still does.

PRAISE ROMA!!!
Nice to see somebody with some balls.
Roma is doing well for himself. He's still in great shape. Roma isn't the only guy to leave a business with no health insurance, no retirement, and no benefits very unapologetic. As a fan you can write him off as bitter. WWE and Mcmahon has taken pride is screwing and firing people for years. Wake up. Roma is in the same boat as Billy Graham, Bruno Sammartino, Dynamite Kid, and Bret Hart up until recently. This business has ruined lives. The illusion of glamor is what draws people into it. There isn't anything glamorous about dying at 30, destroying you body, ruining your family, or being on the road 300 days a year.
I guess that's capitalism.

From personal experience he just doesn't seem to care whether people agree with him or not. He's always been honest and decent to me. I admire the guy for not kissing ass. I admire him for leaving the business and moving on with his life. He's doing better than the majority of wrestlers from that era. Many are dead and the rest are broken down shells of themselves. Paul Roma is neither. He looks almost exactly the same as he did nearly 2 decades ago. He isn't some druggie or drunk. He didn't squander all his money like Flair and he didn't pretend to find god. Honestly, Roma is a great guy.

Be bitter about the business, but why single out a person who eclipses him in just about every facet in Wrestling? That what Roma does. He isn't the only person to think Shawn Michaels is a tool. Until he "found god" or "his smile" or whatever he was generally regard as a sleazy egomaniac by more people than Roma. If you turned on your TV and saw some ass kisser you knew from 2 decades earlier prancing around with glow sticks and acting like a 12 year old you would be thinking the same thing.

and he didn't pretend to find god. Now see, this part of your post confuses me. All the other things you mentioned (alcoholism, drug addiction, going broke) are things that wrestlers have actually done as their careers end or wind down. But then you get to this part about "pretending to find God," and we don't know of a single wrestler who's done that. I mean, the only way you could really tell for sure if a guy was only pretending to be religious is if you could read minds or something. And for some reason, I really doubt you can do that. But otherwise, you're just either A) questioning the religious sincerity of a bunch of people you don't know without any grounds or B) denigrating religion in general. Or both. And that just makes you look like an ass.

I'm glad you know HBK personally well enough to call his religious beliefs a sham. Believe it or not, he's not the only one whose ever had drug problems, among other problems, and has come out of it a better man.

A lot of inflammatory about wrestlers is said on here every day. Just because Shawn Michaels is generally praised doesn't mean he is above simple criticism. Shawn Michaels clearly isn't a saint. In reality he is in rough shape. He a 40-50 year old many dancing around like a 10 year old. As a fan I also applaud him. I'm not his peer, but I can see how somebody who has moved on from wrestling could feel bad he never truly moved on in his life. Shawn is the exception not the norm, lets be honest most of Shawn generation either got out or died. Sometimes both.

I think Roma is just one of those guys who is "calling it like he sees it". He may say a few outlandish things, but the guy is entitled to his own opinions. I give him props for getting out of wrestling before it consumed him. I mean, The Brooklyn Brawler may have a better shot of getting into the WWE Hall of Fame than Roma does, but at the same time I feel being able to hold WCW Tag Team Titles with legends like Arn Anderson & Mr. Wonderful is nothing to sneeze at, and no matter what anyone says, he can always say he was horseman even if it was at the weakest point.
