I know the rules state that you're not supposed to go into an appreciation thread without actually appreciating.....but seriously?! CM Punk could wake up one morning with a bout of constipation and somehow it would find an appreciating thread.

Damn. If Punk doesn't step up to become one of SmackDown's top heels when Jericho leaves to go on his Fozzy tour, something is terribly wrong.

Four things are official now:
1. CM Punk is the best natural actor of the current roster or maybe of all time. His body language, facial expressions, and the tone of his voice is incredible. I bet he gets compliments from many marks when they meet him saying I know everything is scripted but you make it sound real or you don't follow the script. Something along the lines like that.
2. CM Punk is probably the best promo guy in the business. He can adapt and evolve characters better then most guys preventing himself from getting stale. He is a machine in getting crowd reactions.
3. He can sing.
4. He looks like Charles Manson and Charles Manson was once a singer in a band.

CM Punk could wake up one morning with a bout of constipation and somehow it would find an appreciating thread. But this was actually well done: very creepy and the focal point of his segment. It's not like we have a running count on the length of his beard or anything like that. It's a thread about a major segment furthering a feud that involved a main-eventer/ upper midcard guy doing something unusual. Certainly worthy of a thread.

Ya it's not like my CM Punk Bouncing Souls Appreciation Thread. Anyways I think I'm going to make a Bouncing Souls Appreciation Thread in the offtopic thread. (Cheap Plug)

I know CM Punk has a lot of fans around here, but the guy has been tremendous the past few months. It's no different than any of the Diva's getting a seperate thread for any photoshoot they do or the numerous amount of Batista photoshop threads.

That was some of the best heel heat I've seen in a long time. I would honestly nominate that as promo of the year thus far.
Regardless of how overrated people may think Punk is, you have to admit that that was a damn good promo.

At this point, Punk is so great as a heel, he never needs the belt again. It would just be an accessory.

Next week, I wanna see a sit-down interview at Rey's house. During which, Punk parks his car outside and we get a recreation of this scene...

At this point, Punk is so great as a heel, he never needs the belt again. It would just be an accessory. Yep. Back when the WHC was yo-yo-ing around Smackdown and people were pissed about Punk's short reigns, my line of thinking was simply, Punk's character is like Jake Roberts'. His personal crusade, his beliefs, are more important. Neither he nor the belt get more prestige through their union, now that he's had it a few times. He'll be a GREAT challenger to a sympathetic babyface champ. But he's just too damn entertaining to be wasted in title feuds all the time. And didn't anyone else get the Flair/Steamboat culture clash vibe during this segment? Rey Mysterio, family man and fan favorite, brings his family up to the Smackdown taping because he can't choose to miss his daughter's birthday any more than he could miss a show and disappoint thousands of fans. Meanwhile, CM Punk has no heart for things as unimportant as families. He's on his crusade for straight-edge, where Flair was simply living the stylin' and profilin' lifestyle and deriding Steamboat for not doing so. But the interaction between the two men and the way this is building...that's the feeling I get. Rey is naturally sympathetic in a similar way to Steamboat. Punk's character is naturally repellent, similar to Flair. And the fans are put in the uplifting position of cheering for family and duty and mom and apple pie against a force that undermines society - in Flair's case, reckless hedonism and in Punk's, a reckless dogmatism.

He was delightfully creepy in that segment. Not so sure how much acting Alliyah was doing.
