I would love to find out what the money pit of Oak Island is all about. Someone went to a whole lot of trouble to make it.

The lost works of St. Papias. Oh hell yes. Closest I can think of getting to Q. Yeah, there was a whole lot of stuff going on in Palestine from around 150 BCE to 200 CE, and the writings we have are only a fraction of the total. I'm also really curious about the nature of Linear A and the Minoan language. Barely any progress has been made in decades and decades of work.

_The Voynich manuscript. It is apparently some sort of encyclopedia-like work, dated as being from the 15th century. The thing is, to this day, even the best codebreakers in the world remained unable to understand a single word written in it, to the point many people (including historians) believe it to be a joke. But who the Hell would make a book just to pull a prank in a time when books were immensely difficult and expensive to make? I had forgotten about the Voynich manuscript. Undecypherable text and a bunch of pictures that look like they were plumbing instructions drawn by Terry Gilliam.

Heck yeah, Groom Lake/Area 51 fascinates me. I doubt they actually have extraterrestrial ships, let alone bodies or anything like that, but something THIS huge and THIS protected can only contains something unbelievable.

This is one of those "friend of a friend" kind of stories, but I have a cousin that lives in Nevada. Her and husband own their own business, and one of their former employees used to be a contractor at the Groom Lake facility. She never advertised it. In fact, the only reason they finally got her to speak on it is because when she applied she just had a vague reference to government contract work. Anyway, they asked. All she said was "I can't tell you anything. I really, really can't for a lot of reasons. The only thing I'll say is that it's not what everyone thinks, but in a lot of ways its crazier than what everyone thinks." They've never gotten her to utter another word about it since then.

The pyramids. We all know what the history books say on the matter, but they're still a ridiculous feat to be accomplished during that period in time. I think the ancient Egyptians were a lot smarter than we give them credit for to this day.

I think the ancient Egyptians were a lot smarter than we give them credit for to this day. I was going to add this. To this day, we still have no clue how they made this things. We have theories, but nothing really satisfying and ost importantly, there's no physical evidence of the technique used. That's right, from a scientific point of view, "the aliens brought them" is as valid a theory as any other on the topic. What's particularly strange is that while we do have representations of Egyptian construction sites, we have none about the building of the pyramids, as if they really did not wwant other civilizations to know how to build them. Oh and did I mention that they built them without using pulleys? Yeah, they had the wheel and the rope, but for some reason they didn't come up with the pulley, which got introduced in Egypt by the Roman empire.

The missing sections of Tacitus and Dio, and the lost other works by Suetonius. Not to mention other writers from the period whose works are lost.
The numerous lost works of the so called 'Epic Cycle' that includes The Illiad and the Odyssey. As well as all the lost plays of the Greek Theatre.
Jack the Ripper - who was he really?
Atlantis.
Just a few of the many not already mentioned.

When looking for lost documents I think we should examine everywhere, even where we don't think they'd be. Hell, fragments of Aeschylus' Achilles were found as MUMMY WRAPPINGS news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3269965.stm

Egyptian Artifacts in the Grand Canyon www.xpeditionsmagazine.com/magazine/canyon/canyon.htmlAlways wondered if this was real. I have a buddy who majored Egyptology and he said that the Egyptians were not good sailors so he had a hard time believing anyone from Egypt came here. The Greeks on the other hand.....

DB Cooper is one of my favorite ones to sit and ponder....mainly due to the fact that, all these years later, he remains SO enigmatic. Every time someone pops up and says "We KNOW what happened to him" or "We FOUND him at last!" it turns out to be false.
Also, loving this thread! Great idea, and some very, VERY interesting and intelligent conversations going on in here! ;D

In a similar vein as the pyramids: Macchu Picchu.
Seriously, how did they pull it off? The Incas had enormous, heavy stones, which they had to transport up MOUNTAINSIDES, all without the wheel, or without written calculations.

This is of no interest to anyone but me here - I'd like to know how my great-grandfather got killed in World War 1. A bit morbid, but I've always wanted to know.
On a bigger scale, I'd love to know what books were lost to time in the Ancient Library of Alexandria's fire.
