You guys are seriously sniping like this over a sitcom?
Easy, fellas, it's just the internet.
I gotta say, though, Jim's impression of Dwight is one of my favorite moments from the show.
"BEARS. BEETS. BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA."
"MICHAEL!"

Friends don't steal other friends accounts, try to get them fired, or transferred to another branch. Dwight probably wanted Jim to be his flunky at one point, in imitation of the relationship he has (had?) with Michael. Any time Dwight does something he thinks is nice its really to draw attention to himself and make himself seem more important than he is. Again, just like Michael, only Michael seems a bit more self aware and can feel some remorse when he screws up. Yeah, but I think the main motivation behind all of Dwights actions are that at one point he wanted to be Jims friend and Jim blew him off, which hurt Dwight. I hope in the last season there is an episode where Dwight just goes too far and Jim blows up at him, leading to some big reveal that all Dwight wanted was to be Jim's friend, but Jim was basically a douche to him. It would be kind of like the episode last season where the guy at the day care told Jim and Pam that maybe not everyone loved them. It would kind of put Jim in his place, since the character can be douchey at times. The episode would then end with some small gesture of friendship from Jim, hinting that maybe things will change.

2) Dwight told Ryan when he took him on a sales call that he was just worried about Ryan being a salesman because him and Jim never got along. It was actually an initiation ritual, Ryan's first sales call was with Stanley a few episodes later in "Traveling Salesmen," the episode where Dwight is forced to quit. But yeah, and remember also that in "Traveling Salesmen" Jim shows a picture of him and Dwight when they used to do sales calls together when Jim first joined the company - Dwight has his arm around Jim. I think the fact that Jim actually kept that picture says something about their relationship.

Both feel it, but both hide how they feel because they don't want to go out on the limb to possibly face rejection.

I think the key to Dwight is this. For example, we see him seemingly be kind to Pam. Then, he sabotages it by saying something inappropriate. He thinks he is righteous and a good guy but sabotages it because he is so socially inept. He is also prone to jealousy.
Does Dwight secretly like Jim? He might. If they have a buddy moment he might f it up though. Hilariously.

I think Dwight respects Jim in a "worthy opponent" kind of way.
Dwight sees himself as a warrior and Jim as his opponent forever locked in battle.
When he was leaving DM, Dwight respectfull bid farewell to his nemisis.
So, I don't think he "likes" him, but respects him the same way Magneto and Xavier do each other.

And no, I don't buy the "Dwight/Pam" secret romance thing. If you do, go make stupid youtube videos.

I think this is the most accurate way of putting it. Dwight is a nerd, and wants to be a hero, and you can only be a hero if you have a nemesis. But I also have to echo the sentiment of an earlier post about Jim being a douche at times. In earlier seasons, when they'd prank Dwight quite a bit, they'd always do a talking head saying how Dwight deserves what they do. But the bottom line is, we only occasionally see Dwight do something directly to Jim that would be means for retaliation. Around the fourth season, I started to really think Dwight was just trying to get by and do his best, even though he's kinda socially retarded, and Jim basically spits in his face at any chance just cuz... well, Jim's the popular one and Dwight's the nerd.

Dwight annoys Jim. That's why he pranks him. Dwight can be obnoxious.

What's even more interesting is that Dwight probably sees Jim as the nerd and himself as the jock. I think to a point Jim just likes interacting with Dwight, but that's pretty much the only way they could be "friends." Could you imagine them really casually hanging out and having fun together?

I don't really see the nerd and jock thing. Dwight annoys the crap out of Jim and is cocky about it so Jim pranks him. If Dwight didn't annoy him it wouldn't happen. Kevin's a big dork, Jim doesn't prank him. I know they work in different departments but still. Same with Oscar who is gay and Creed who is...Creed. He's not a bully, just a dude trying to do his job at that crappy, crappy paper company.
