I agree with SoTC, the art style, the sense of isolation and most of all the sense of guilt killing the enemies.
Link's Awakening beat it by quite a few years though as that makes you feel guilty for destroying a whole world and tells it's story in a minimalist way.
Ico of course, mostly for the how the relationship build between the two main characters. Two other things I'll mention are the vertigo and the way Yorda chases birds.
I'll agree with Yoshi's Island and Okami too.

Okami Final Fantasy Series.
The main one for me though is Ico, which is the single most immersive and beautiful game ever for my money.

Donkey Kong Country series, partly because of David Wise's scores.

I can't believe these haven't been mentioned yet but Bioshock 1 and 2 The perfect games. The setting of Rapture is fantastic. An underwater utopia designed to be free of religion and government full of the worlds best and brightest. That on it's own would be brilliant but what really seals Rapture as a great creation is how well thought-out, how thought-provoking and how interesting the cities downfall is. Then there's the design of the city itself. The game designers did brilliantly with the paradise gone to ruin. From the layout of the levels, areas and shops to the little things like the paint on the walls from Raptures insane inhabitants. Then there's little things in the background, it's chilling seeing a Big Sister staring at you on the other side of a glass panel, a Big Brother beating to death a splicer, a little sister harvesting ADAM from a corpse. They may be little things but they just add to the overall creepy atmosphere of the games. Then there's the Little Sisters. My god they are fantastic, so creepy yet adorable at the same time. I love their little quotations and rhymes they sing whilst walking along. Finally, the endings. Bioshock one had my all-time favourite video game ending. (the good version) It actually brought a lump to my throat. Seriously, if you haven't played the Bioshock games you should They're first-person shooters but with more of an emphasise on exploring, discovering Raptures history and the whole general atmoshphere of the fallen utopia than ploughing through rows of meaningless enemies.

The problem with BioShock that I have is really very simple: {Spoiler}How in the Holy Mother of S*** are you supposed to beat Big Daddies?! Not even my f***ing grenade launcher will do very much damage!

{Spoiler}I loved the challenge of fighting Big Daddys and later the Big Sisters in Bioshock 2. I struggled at first but soon found a pretty easy way to defeat them. I used the freeze blast to freeze them in place, pepper away at them with armour pierching rounds, heal/Use EVE as needs be repeat the process until Big Daddy is dead It takes a while but it works and with minimal damage. BIOSHOCK 2 SPOILER! {Spoiler}With Big Sisters I used a hynoptise/decoy combo to draw Big Sisters attention, Summon Bot to get some added help and the old freeze-blast, Armour Piercing rounds method Another thing I loved about Bioshock 1 & 2 was the games script. The develops completely filled it with great lines and quotes, especially with the Little Sisters Seriously, if Bioshock was a book, tv series, or a movie the critics would never shut up about it. Sadly, because it's a game it seems to get looked down on by the non-gaming type snobs

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey was the special game I downloaded from XBOX Live last December. I invested fully in this game and I still have some good memories from Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. This game is considered spiritual sequel to The Longest Journey. The games pretty much based on this quote which said, "Have you ever had a dream so real… you are not sure if you are awake or still dreaming?"

There are some scenes in GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption that are art. Or at least pushing in to those ground.
The next GTA will be a masterpiece and possibly be considered art (if they continue the awesome direction & don't go the silly Saint's Row route)

I agree with a lot of these. Eternal Darkness, MGS (Particularly 3), the Legend of Zelda Series, etc...
I'd have to add Metroid Prime to the list. It was beautiful when it came out and it holds up very well.

Deadly Premonition: Art isn't always pretty, and it sure as hell doesn't always make sense. I will say, though, this game is just... It sure as hell makes you think, even if what you're thinking is "What the hell is going on?"
Nothing is wrong with the audio. The music deliberately drowns out the scene.
Maybe it's surrealist, maybe it's dada. Well, as the saying goes, I don't know too much about art, but I know what I like.

It sure is artsy, but I wouldn't call it art. Just to pipe in, as an artist and not a gamer, I completely consider video games a form of art. It completely baffles me that people don't. Then again, if you pick any art form I could find you somebody who doesn't think it's art, so that doesn't surprise me Heh, not so long ago (and still currently in most parts of the world), it was still hard to say that comics are art without getting strange looks. As for my choices... _Any Silent Hill game. Never has any series of games pulled my strings this much, except maybe for... _most Final Fantasy games. Heck, just try FF6 and you'll know what I mean. _Portal. Original gameplay and great writing that really sucks you into the game's atmosphere; _Fallout 3. Just... wow. It really feels like exploring an entire world. And you'd be surprised at how varied it can be whereas at first glance, everything is just gray, destroyed emptiness; _Metal Gear Solid. Though it's almost the dadaist kind of art here (not that it's a bad thing); _Deus Ex. So many things to do, so much choice, it's amazing. Though sometimes, there may be a bit TOO much choice, and so you're not sure what to do. _System Shock. Pretty much the same as Deus Ex, but released 6 years earlier (to show how ahead of its time it was, that also makes it older than Duke Nukem 3D)

Portal. Super Metroid Shadow of The Colossus
I guess Heavy Rain could count as completely tedious and shitty art

There is something about thoose two Games that makes them more than just Fighting-games. (03:40) Maybe this will help explain what I mean. HOLY f*** I´M sorry wrong link.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DQsa_nM9e4That should work.

I am going to go out on a limb and say Super Mario Galaxy Good call! I forgot to mention Mother 3, it's the most emotional game I've ever played. It's also funny, contains great characters and has some strong themes.
