So while watching the UFC pre-show, a commercial for Wrestlemania ran and my roommate's friend asked when it was. Typical "we're getting it tomorrow, you should come over" conversation ensues and then he tells me he used to go to all the live shows and followed it religiously but just stopped watching when Austin left and hasn't kept up at all.
It was like talking with someone who had just woken up from a coma.
He reacted to Hart/Vince with "I never thought I'd see that" that is expected, and Michaels/Taker with "Wait...SHAWN MICHAELS came back?"
He asked who the new blood was, and I mentioned the Cena/Batista match and began to extrapolate with how they're the main two new faces and he cut me off to yell "DEACON BATISTA IS HEADLINING MANIA?"
If you've ever wondered how a conversation with yourself eight years ago would go. This was it. The best moment:
"Yeah, back then I never liked Vince's obsession with big hulking guys either."
"So you weren't watching during the nine-month Bradshaw world title reign?"
"That...that happened? That was a thing?"

Show him the Katie Vick segment.
Guarantee you he'll go into a longer "coma".

Yeah I have a friend at school named Tim who stopped watching around 2005. When me and fellow friend Brad (Fellow Wrestlecrapper Silent Brad) started talking about WWE now these days. He told us about his past and wanted to hear everything that has happened since then.
We told about Jeff Hardy winning the world title, and he was suprised.
Tim: Wait, he came back? When did he win the world title?
Me: Not to long ago.
Tim: What about Matt?
Me: Oh he still the same, won the U.S Title and the ECW Title on the resurrected brand and that's about it.
Tim: I loved Matt Hardy, but I'm not suprised.
Me: Jericho came back.
Tim: No way! How is he?
Me: Well he's got hair that would make him a member of NSYNC or Backstreet Boys. He went shorter with the pants, and is heel. An awesome heel.
Tim: Eww, Jericho with shorter pants?
He then gave me a plain white shirt with Chris Benoit's autograph from 2004 or 2005. He was a big Benoit fan. I still have the shirt sitting on my desk to this day. He gave me the shirt last year though.

Hmm, if I had a convo with my 10 year old self, wrestling would be the last thing on my mind. But seriously, I couldn't even fathom telling myself 7 years ago that Decon Batista and that loser in green shorts who got beat by Kurt Angle would be headlining Wrestlemania. He'd look at me funny when I tell him that guy with the nerdy haircut who broke him arm is facing The Million Dollar Man and Dusty Rhodes' kids. And to top it off, he'd be bewildered as to why Kane and Matt Hardy got fat, why Christian hasn't won a world title like Edge, why Chris Jericho is in a suit, why the black guy from the World's Greatest Tag Team looks like Dennis Rodman, and why Mike from the Real World is teaming with Big Show and the guy from Tough Enough is teaming with K-Kwik.

"That was a thing?"
Lmao.
Yeah, that's pretty crazy. And a big indication that the general public don't really know Batista/Cena..

"So you weren't watching during the nine-month Bradshaw world title reign?" "That...that happened? That was a thing?" I'm still laughing. Seriously, who would have thought that this guy... was a future world champion? Nobody, and I still contend that it sucked. But yeah, a friend of mine who stopped watching during the Invasion was also pretty surprised when he found out. So surprised, in fact, that when I showed him a picture of JBL with the title, he refused to believe it was really Bradshaw.

why the black guy from the World's Greatest Tag Team looks like Dennis Rodman If this was 2002, he'd probably say Sisqo.

Yeah, that's pretty crazy. And a big indication that the general public don't really know Batista/Cena.. To be fair, he knew Cena from the movies.

If I ever had a conversation with myself from 8 years ago, there wouldn't be much wrestling discussion. I'd kick my 24 year old self's ass for not getting my proverbial "shit" together sooner.

I remember when I got back into wrestling around 2003 after a roughly 5 year hiatus. I went online to MIRC (is that still around by the way?) and entered a wrestling chatroom and started asking what was new and trying to get rough timeline of things. Biggest news that surprised me that I didn;t know happen? WCW being sold to WWF. I was like "WTF? How the hell did THAT happen? WCW was the biggest and greatest wrestling company going less than 5 years ago!"

Imagine a conversation with a fan from 2000:
Him: So what's new?
Me: Cena is taking on Batista, Edge is taking on Jericho, HBK and Taker are fighting...
Him: Woah whose Cena and Batista? Edge and Jericho are main-eventers? HBK came back? Taker is still around?
Me: A rapper-marine and a douchebag. Yes they are main-eventers and Edge is in fact a 9-time World Champion, and Jericho unified the WCW and WWF championships! HBK came back in 2002 and is putting his career on the line and Taker is putting up his WrestleMania streak.
Him: Wow...is Taker still the Deadman?
Me: Yeah...except he was a biker for 3 years...
Him: Oh...
Me: >_>

Actually, when I was 15 (During that year, I turned 16 that same year), I still caught wrestling here and there and later that year, I kind of got back into it but not much. However, a lot of the talent coming in at the time, I wasn't familiar with like Rico and such. Hell, I never heard of John Cena and Randy Orton, both of whom were up and coming and were like jobbers on Smackdown. Then of course, Cena gets a rapper gimmick and Orton joins up with Triple H and gets over from there. I do have my breaks, but at least I keep up every now and then. That guy seemed like he was in an eight year coma.

I think this should be a show. You take a fan who stopped watching around 1999 and take them through what they've missed in wrestling.
"Wait...so did WCW change their name to TNA?"

You should have told him Rey Mysterio was the proxy for Eddie Guerrero's posthumous title reign.
Also, there's a person whose heel heat rivals if not exceeds any McMahon. And that person is Eddy's wife.
