Can't say I'm surprised. This whole thing has been a legal mess from day one, and given the dubious competence of some of the courts involved, I suspect Polanski will be dead of natural causes before they ever sort it out.

That part has always been a bit murky. There were definitely drugs involved, so she may not have been of competent mind at the time. Tell me what 13-year-old girl is interested in sex, let alone sodomy. This is bull. That's why I said I didn't know the facts. I had always heard that all the charges were dropped except for the unlawful sex charge (as in sex with a minor). If he did force himself upon her then yes, he deserves to go to jail, regardless of what the victim wants.

Hopefully he's been so vilified that no one will leave him alone with their children. At least then we'd know he was no longer a threat.

I'm getting really sick of seeing celebrities get off easy when they've committed serious offenses. An average Joe would have been lynched for this.

If Michael Bay gave some 13 year old some esctacy and valium (I'm trying to figure out what the closest equivalent to a lude would be other than a bunch of alcohol, which people seem to accept more) and had sex with her, how many people would be excusing his acts?

If this was a normal person that had sex with a 13 year old and fled the country they'd be headed to a "federal pound me in the ass prison". But since he's famous he'll walk away and get to live in France.

Tell me what 13-year-old girl is interested in sex, let alone sodomy. I heard that's the verbatim pick-up line on Jerry Lawler's E-Harmony page. All kidding aside, I'm genuinely curious; isn't there a statute of limitations on rape? If he had actually been tried and convicted when it happened, he would have been out at least twenty years ago. I'm not excusing his crimes, I'm just curious as to the statute. I always heard that only murder didn't have one. He should be imprisoned if only for his films. Rape charges should just keep him there

I don't honestly know the answer to this question, but I know that a statute of limitations does not apply in this case. He was arrested, tried, and convicted in the 1970s. The huge delay is because he fled after the conviction but before the sentencing. There is no statute of limitations when a convicted criminal flees the country to escape sentencing.

Ok, so he was convicted. So he's looked at as a fugitive. I get it now. The irony though is that had he fled before the trial, because of the statute, he'd be a free man right now.

I'm sure there actually are some 13 year old girls interested in not only sex, but butt sex as well.
And I'm just as sure that them being interested doesn't at all excuse the actions of a guy like Polanski.

I believe the statute only applies to charges being pressed, so since Polanski already had charges pressed against him, he would not be protected by the statute then either.
