as much as i love Jac kBlacks faux mexican accent and performance in this movie, compared to his other movies like School of rock , Tenacious D or High Fidelity this was a turkey.
and guess what! its about wrestling so it needs to be inducted!!
any thoughts?

My thoughts? It was so horrible it put me to sleep. I lasted until I saw Human Tornado, and then I went out like a light, in the theatre!

wow.. that is so weird.. i happen to be watching it right now lol.. I never understood what was with the no love for this movie. yes its lame, and overall pretty stupid. but thats pretty much why i like it. i cant help but laugh at all of the terrible lines and jack blacks overacting. so bad that its good imo.

I hated it. It wasn`t funny, but then Jack Black has never amused me in the slightest.

One of the top 10 worst movies I ever saw. Not even unintentionally funny.

this is a review I wrote for the movie when I saw it on DVD
repost:Nacho Libre
Nacho Libre - I enjoyed Jack Black as the obnoxious clerk in High Fidelity and the obsessed neo-con in Bob Roberts - I even own and have laughed @ the first Tenacious D album.I am burnt out on his schtick- School of Rock was like having my teeth pulled and his talk show appearances are the same note.Even so I am a life-long fan of the pro wrestling and love the luchadores. This broken Spanglish offering is about a loser priest that decides to take up wrestling in this offering from Nappy Dynamite director Jared Hess.I don't get it- it just doesn't work and it borders on belittling to the colorful history of Mexican wrestling.First off like the WCW sanctioned crapfest Ready to Rumble (which actually led to David Arquette holding the WCW strap for almost a month)- this movie treats wrestling as athletic competition and not staged entertainment. And once again wrestling fans are presented as either cross-eyed or not all that bright. This movie will appeal to pre-teen boys with it's mix of fart jokes and cartoon violence- the rest of the family can roll thier eyes as little Billy guffaws with joy when Jack Black flexes his butt-cheeks for the comely nun.If you want to check out some good lucha action - netflix the Rey Misterio WWE DVD which features his great 1997 with the late Eddie Guerrero. The DVD has commentary by the star and the director- delted scenes and several featuretttes. C-
another great source for lucha stuff is the book Mondo Lucha A Go-GO by Dan Madigan( an all around swell guy that I was lucky enough to talk to a few weeks ago)

I remember seeing the ads for this and thought "hmm, maybe i should go see that."
I never did, and my friends tell me to watch it (mostly because i am "wrestlig nerd" in my clique). But after reading this, maybe i'll pass on it.

A funny story:
For those of you who were unaware, Jack Black got death threats from fat women for the movie Shallow Hal.
Last year, while working on the set of the movie Be Kind Rewind, I had the chance to talk to Jack Black in person. Having seen Nacho Libre just recently, I asked him if he had received any death threats from Luchadores yet. He laughed it off, and told me that in fact the Luchadore's had turned out to be huge fans.

I learned after watching it, that it had been directed by the guy who directed Napolean Dynamite. After learning that fact, the pure suckitude this crapfest eminated made so much sense.

Very slow and very lame. The movie just sat there. and the "jokes" were not even jokes. People just reciting lines with no delivery or inflection under the guise of, "you're supposed to laugh at this".

Just came back from a family gathering were my aunt gave me a copy of "Bladerunner" (niiiice) and "Nacho Libre". Once i finish these essays im going to watch this suckah and form an opinion based on fact.

I fell asleep before the intro even wrapped up...
...it probably didn't help that I got off work at 11 that night and was about to pass out before even getting to my room.

Hmm. I liked parts of Nap Dynomite, but loved this movie.
What's wrong with me?! I also loved The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which a lot of people didn't like.
Hmmm.
Oh well, screw it. The movie made me laugh many times over.

I saw at the cinema and was immensly disappointed. They had to resort to Jack Black singing in a stupid way - like his does in all of his films - to get laughs. The Tenacious D movie was a huge letdown too.
