and no, not bears as in the gay fetish involving men who are big and hairy (like prince albert) or bears as in former chicago bears (then we'd have to count everyone who wrestled steve "mongo" mcmichael)
I'm talking about actual bears. I've just noticed that for some odd reason wrestling promoters thought it would be a good idea to have people go up against real live bears.
although the only two wrestlers that I know of that did are tracy smothers (seen here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25BIVy7g0X8) and also aparently eddie gilbert according to his wikipedia.
my question is, who else has wrestled a bear in this horrible idea for a gimmick match?

Didn't Steve Regal used to wrestle them when he was still breaking his back in the carnies?

The tracy smothers one is awesome just for gordon. "the bear doesn't know some of the finer holds....like a figure four" "there you saw it go for a leg sweep! as i said, bears are natural wrestlers"

Didn't Eddie Gilbert wrestle a bear and then die from a heart attack shortly thereafter?

Roddy Piper described in his book how he once had to wrestle a bear named Victor. Someone smeared honey all over the back of Piper's trunks so the bear nearly bit his ass off. Also, Terry Funk did wrestle a bear in Amarillo.

I was going to make that reference. Then again, I have a CAW in Day of Reckoning 2 named Bear the Mediocre Bear. I'll get images of all of my CAWs soon I hope. :-) I have some real good ones...

I wish I could remember who it was or where I read it (probably at kayfabe memories), but I remember a story someone wrote about wrestling bears. Apparently this bear was trained with Coca-Cola as his reward. He was given a bottle before he wrestled and a bottle after the match. Apparently, one of the wrestlers decided to play around with the bear to see what it was capable of after the match. It had it's second Coke, so it wasn't in the mood and swatted the guy away fairly quickly.

The guy who wrestled the bear Terrible Ted on Wrestling Gold was Gene Dubois, aka Dave "Canadian Wildman" Mckingley, who was killed in the same auto accident as Adrian Adonis
The bear spends more time trying to maul the ref than his opponent. The announcer stole the show
"All i can tell you is that the bear weighs 600 pounds, and Gene Dubois....from Canada, weighs about 220"
"The winner.....and still champion, THE BEAR!"
George "The Animal" Steele also wrestled a bear, who crapped in the ring and promoter thought The Animal scared the **** out of it, lol

dammit people this really needs to be removed for the good of the WWE, bear could be the new big monster heel in the wwe if vince see's this, I mean why have a guy who claims to be a silverback gorilla when you could just go get a real bear, the scary part is that he could get over better than about 3/4 of the WWE roster and he probably is better on the mike than bobby lashley too

I was looking up some info on Eddie Sullivan and Rip Tyler, after seeing them in a Sonny Chiba film and found this piece over at obsessedwithwrestling and figured I'd bump... Sullivan had an expressed/verified dislike for Tojo Yamamoto and noted how this man would always tease the tarined bear on Gulas shows until one evening when he and Rip Tyler heard Tojo coming and unlocked the cage, letting the angry bear out and though usually tame, the bear chased his antagonist all the way out of the building. EDIT: Oh, and in a bit of weirdness... the movie was the third part of the trilogy. In the second, Sonny Chiba fights a bear (in fact, that film is called Karate Bearfighter)
